Vista computername\username logon issue
I have a 160GB HD hooked up to my Acer laptop with Vista Home Premium 64 and have GBs of music on the HD (both via iTunes and FLAC files) to play on a wireless SONOS setup. Up to a couple of days ago evrything worked fine - I could logon to the HD music folder using the admin & password sign-on and play the music and update the files. However, for some unknown reason Vista started tacking on the computername\ prefix to the "admin" username and I cannot log on to the Gearbox NAS because the Gearbox will only accept "admin" as the username. I've searched many forums regarding this issue (it is apparently not uncommon since Windows 2000). Get-arounds are suggested, such as lowering security via registry changes (tried, no success), or using <ip-address>\admin for the username. For networking other computers and some other devices this apparently works, but Gearbox doesn't accept this, sticking stiffly with the unchangable "admin".
Does anybody have a solution for this problem with Microsoft's "helpful hand", or perhaps there is some way to alter the Gearbox username to match what MS is pushing.
