Default Invalid file error - only while streaming - USB ok.

Hi, I've recently purchased the PBO and wished to set it up to play streaming over the LAN network from my PC running Vista. I can browse my shared drive on the PC from PBO and see all files however I get "Invalid file" in the preview screen. Same files on a USB will play however.

I've disabled firewall and AVG with no fix. Also set sharing permissions to everyone but this does not help.

Any idea's would be much appreciated.

Problem solved. I went into folder options > Sharing > security, and added "guest" with read permissions. It already had "everyone" there, but need "guest to properly display files.

Ah and this finally nails down the vista fix and needs to be stickied or added to something somewhere easy to find.

I am glad you posted this. I am running a FreeNAS server with the CIFS service enabled, but when I mapped to the Freenas server, I kept getting the Invalid File error. I could log into the shares, navigate to specific files (mp3, jpg, etc), but I was unable to view the content. I was able to map to my WIN7 box and pull/stream content with no problem.

Your post sparked a thought. I had applied ACLs to my individual shares (770). This disallowed "others" the ability to rwx on my shares. I figured this to be loosely analogous to your guest account issue. I set my ACLs to 775 and BOO-YAH, I am now able to check out my media.

"Invalid file" or "File does not exist" are not very good error descriptors, under these circumstances. Oh well...can't complain too much, I'm good to go now.
