    Default PBO will not shutdown

My unit will sometime refuse to shutdown when I push the red power button on the remote. The screen goes black, but the LED stays solid green, and it won't respond to anything else from the remote...

I'm currently on firmware P04, with a wired DHCP lan connection, playing all my files through network as I don't have an internal hard drive. The PBO did that too on firmware P02 and on wireless lan too.

    Anyone else has this?

Is it random or can you repeat it ?
It might be trying to shutdown .. can you find a specific pattern ?
are you shutting down in the middle of streaming ? or you are at the main menu ? would you be getting it via HDMI and composite as well ? how about trying to run a file from a USB stick and disconnect LAN and see if you can still get it to hang during shutdown?

When PBO start preview file and you klick power off button then green Leds sometimes don't off. Move to /../ or other catalog and then power off its should help. You can disable preview too. Sorry for my english.

Default May also fail to power up...

I've been trying to reproduce the problem, without much repeatability though. I even got it to fail booting power up after a "normal" power off. I'll try different video format in the next few days and see if any of them is more likely to cause the issue. If I find something (either via USB or LAN) I'll post here.

@aasoror : I only run the PBO with HDMI (i don't have enough composite inputs for all my stuff on my TV, so I don't want to go this way until I'm really desperate). Also, I always take caution not to interrupt streaming. I press stop, go back to the home menu and wait a couple of seconds before turning off (and it does not seem to help).

@Sylwester: My "movie preview" is OFF. And the PBO shut down the display (I get black screen), so no more going around the menus...

And thanks for the replies guys.

I am by no mean suggesting you should go to composite, I am just saying if you try composite and found that the problem is with HDMI then this might suggest using different HDMI cable, different HDMI TV port or ruling the PBO HDMI port faulty.

Maybe PBO have problem with unmount USB HDD drive and/or WIFI usb card. I understand so you have USB WIFI card ?

Well, I don't use USB drive, only LAN. I used the WIFI adaptor (the one sold by Patriot) and I was getting that shutdown problem (I think it was worse at the time, but I don't have factual numbers). So I eventually ran a cable through my walls and got it on wired LAN recently, but still having the shutdown problem.

Try to establish a telnet connection to the PBO and issue a reboot command via telnet.
You should be able to shut it down with the remote after the reboot.

Default PBO Improper/Incomplete Shutdown Event Sequence

I have had similar wired LAN connection shutdown problems and more.

The following are the typical steps taken during Normal and Abnormal (problem) Shutdowns:

    1) Backing out of any menu below the highest Browser level then pressing the Home button to get to the Power up screen.

    2) After a PC “netstat” command check for no active Connections are present for the PBO IP address with any computer on the LAN.

    3) Remote Power button pressed with HDD, LAN and Power LEDs on solid Green.

    4) Screen Message for seven seconds => Services: Shutting down…

5a - OK) NORMAL - Blank/Black screen for 4-5 more seconds then only Power/Standby LED on Red solid.

5b - NOT OK) ABNORMAL – Blank/Black screen HDD, LAN and Power LEDs stay on solid Green.

Never goes into Standby (Red solid LED) state. Remote cannot power up the PBO and I have to manually Power down unit with Switch (on back of PBO) to get any response from unit.

Any ideas? I’m heading towards => this is a “bad PBO unit".

greetings all. please add my name to this list. i just registered to this support forum for this exact reason.

i've only had my pbo for three days and already have run into this situation at least five times. the unit will not power off. it just hangs with two green lights on and will not power back on with the remote. you have to manually turn off the switch at the back of the unit to reset it.

i have mine connected via hdmi cable that was included in the box, hardwired to my network streaming media off a windows 7 htpc. no harddrive.

i have yet to test it with different configuration.

    regards,
    Mark
