MKV invisible

I have several films that have an mkv file extension. When I browse unp, these films do not show - it's as if they don't exist. By the way, they don't show up if I try to access them on my computer using Media Center. Other players are ok with them.

Another problem, some of my avi films will not play. I assume that it has to do with codecs - is there a way to add codecs to the Box Office"?

it's probably more a problem with upnp try putting it on a share that has access and use the net function and see if they show up and play that way.

Which software are you using as UPNP media server? You need an UPNP media server to see anything under the UPNP folder of the PBO.

NO!

The only thing that will help with that is :

1) Firmware update
2) Converting your avi to a different format
3) Use an UPNP media server that provides conversion on the fly.

With regards to option 3 there have been times when I could not play an avi on USB stick or on a shared drive (NET) but the same Avi will played fine when I used an UPNP media server even without any conversion being done to the AVI file. The PBO was happy with just the new video container sent by the UPNP server. Kind of magic really.

My films are stored on an HP MediaServer.

The files won't play in windows mediaplayer because you don't have codecs installed within windows to view the matroska video container files mkv. I think it's upnp problem and if you could just do it through the net option would see if that is the case or not. I transcode my mkv files using the normal option within handbrake and they always work but no telling what the settings are if you got them bittorrent or somewhere else.

PBO runs using Linux which care about uppercase/lowercase; if your UPNP server is setup properly and you see it under the UPNP option then you should see the files under that directory if they have the proper file extension. Make sure your file extension is .mkv not .MKV which is different for Linux. Whether the file has a codec that PBO support is irrelevant to see the file as long as the extension is recognized by the PBO. If it does not support that Codec you will get an invalid file message on the PBO when you try to play it but you will still see it

It also cares about access rights to the file. I put a .mkv file into my monitored directory and it didn't appear in PBO. After I did a 'chmod 777 filename.mkv' on it.. magic.

I just had this problem and it was because when I was looking for my media, I was looking under UPNP instead of NET. I was thinking NET was internet.
