Default Sorry for the un-ending querries

I may have neen unclear in my querry - please don't be confused by my mention of BD RB - it was a side-lined bit of info I brought to light

What I want to know about this scenario is...

Scenario -- I ripped a BD disc using MakeMKV and the ending MKV measured 15.3 Gbs -- then I used imgBurn to make an ISO from the MKV and the ending ISO measured 15.3 Gbs also (maybe bcz like you said--it just contains the MKV within the ISO)

With that said - is there a quality/resolution loss from the original BD to the MKV rip - and/or - to the ISO made from the MKV in imgBurn - and if I want to burn/back-up this ISO from imgBurn to a Blank 25Gb BD will it play in a consumer model BD DVD player - or only on a PC's BD optical drive

Again - sorry for the constant querries - but this is still fairly new to me - and I'm trying to "get it right"

I'll look at the one you have listed here. Your only issue with taking from a mkv back to iso is you're going to lose quality everytime because you're making the disk from a file already transcoded which always causes loss of quality and then going back to iso will further give quality loss.
I'm using Handbrake 0.9.4 on a 64 bit AMD machine running Win7 Home Premium.
    Rock solid /no issues.

No since you're encapsulating a mkv container video file on the disc in a DATA format not a video format it will not play on BD player. That's why I was confused on why you'd want to make it to an iso as you're just storing the file anyways so just backup the mkv and you have the same thing. You would have the BD as backup theoretically wink wink but as long as you have 2 copies of the mkv you should be ok and it would take up significantly less space. Yes when you convert from the BD to the mkv you lose quality but like aasoror it is dependent on the settings you choose within the codec package as to how much is lost. I did some study on 720p vs 1080p and it is stated unless you have a screen bigger than 46" you would not visibly see any difference between the 2 with the naked eye. So depending on how big your screen is would be how much loss you have but it would take a lot to get it down to native dvd 420p.

    Default Iso

So if I rip the original BD disc to an ISO (with anyDVD HD) and not to an MKV - it will be "as the original" BD disc - no quality/resolution loss -- correct??

And will burn/back-up to a blank BD disc and be able to play on "ANY" BD player (PC or stand alone consumer model) ?

    thx

Some will only play MKV via USB others will take data discs with MKVs no problem.

Yes there is depending on your encoding settings.

Depends on your player (as you will be making a BD Data Disc not video disc), that said, the players quoted above will do it.

Ok so these players that will play a mkv what codec does the encoding have to be h.264 divx or what? It seems that h.264 has become the default kid on the block the last couple of years.

If you want to backup your BD to iso get a program that will extract just the title out and save that to ISO which should remove several gb from the iso size alone and it would leave the main movie still in BD format. I have a licensed copy of dvdfab HD that you can pay for BD title support and it would dump the BD title to harddrive or disc same as dvdshrink did for normal dvds. There are others out there that will do the same thing as well but that's the one I have and know.

You guys are getting really hard to satisfy, as I don't own these players my guess is as good as yours ..
but any way, here is JVC from the page that I have already linked
    Code:
    Playable Formats (Image)
    MPEG-4 AVC (H.264) Yes

To chip in, my cheap blu-ray player (LG BD350C - bottom of the range) can also play .mkv files (as well as divx) using usb and external hdd, maybe the mkv file's I played was just a container for divx files as aasoror kindly educated us. But yes, at the moment the PBO dont do anything more for me than what this player do as most of my videos are in these formats with the added benefit of being able to play DVD's and Blue rays straight from the disc and also playing mp3's and photos etc. (mp3 with shuffle! Whoohoo) But I am sure there are some extra formats the PBO will play, but until the PBO can shuffle, it will gather dust.

Sorry to have taxed your vast range of knowledge - but you have definately helped to clear up some of my gray areas on this subject - and I'm walking away with a much clearer view of how to deal with BD/DVD ripping/burning/streaming than a few short hours ago

As usual -- very much appreciated

    Salute!! -
