Cannot connect to NAS - getting 0.0.0.0 IP adress by Java utility

Hello all,

I have just received my Gear Box USB unit, and I tried to start using it.

When I connect the unit to my router, the java utility sees it, but it gives 0.0.0.0 as IP address. If I use the default IP address (as per users guide) that does not work either.

How do I find the real IP address of the NAS unit so that I can connect?

I use Vista and a Linksys WRT54 router with DD-WRT.

Is DHCP enabled on the router?

I will double check, but I think DHCP is enabled, as a number of other devices connect to it fine (Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii, a laptop and a desktop), and they all get their IP addresses assigned by it.

Also try manually checking the IP addresses in your subnet for the Gearbox, the java utility might be wrong.

connect the nas directly to you pc's network card,then the nas will give you an ip .

now you can go into the nas and change the ip settings to settings within your router's ip range and turn off dhcp ,after that you can hook it back up to you router and you should be able to see it now.

i think i've encountered a similar problem before having 0.0.0.0 IP address on the java utility. by the way, i'm using the 1.27 fat32 fw, dhcp and windows xp sp3. you can give this a shot, it may or may not work for you, albeit it did work for me, thus - press that little button on the left side of your gearbox for at least five seconds to reset it. this was all i did and my pc java utility was able to detect the ip address, or see this thread - http://www.patriotmem.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2512 .
