Default HD .iso does not play menus

One key reason I bought this box was so without having to burn a blu-ray disc, I could edit my HD videos, create a DVD menu and play it on my HDTV. This would eliminate the need for a Blu-Ray burner in my PC and save the cost of those expensive BR Discs.

I've been able to create my home movies and create an .iso, the PBO opens the file great, but it does not recognize my menu buttons, therefore there is no way to navigate past the opening menu. I've taken other home DVDs that I've made and copied them to my computer and made an .iso which play fine with menu support. Curious is anyone else is doing this successfully .

I'm wondering is there something that gets put on a DVD when a disc is burned that is needed for playback with menus to work? seems odd since DVDs that I've copied and created .iso both hollywood movies and my home movies are working great on the PBO.

    thanks

Menus in BR-ISOs doesn't work, whether you have an updated firmware or an updated bootcode. Its a reported bug.

Menus in DVD-ISOs does work though (as you have already noted)

Really, wow that's very disappointing. Is this something that is being fixed for future firmware?

No clue, seems patriot decided that "no news is a good", so they decided not to acknowledge any of the reported bugs or disclose the bug fix list.

Here's a review that says "an additional Bootcode update is required in order to get Blu-Ray menus working."

    Any truth to that?

    Absolutely not.
This was based on a speculation made by Patriot on the "firmware download" page. Whoever supplied Patriot with the firmware update P02, told them that this should get BR menus working.

Users applied the P02 only to discover that there is no BR menu support, so Patriot speculated that a bootcode update is needed (thus the statement in the firmware update thread and consequently that review you quoted).

It didn't take long for users to start receiving units that had updated bootcode .18 on them, yet failed to display the BR menus as well.

Following such reports, Patriot did (not so promptly though) remove this statement from the firmware download page (one would think they would have turned back to who ever supplied the firmware/bootcode and ask for an explanation/fix .. )

Hopefully they will promptly remove the FALSE HD-DVD support claim on the same page, because - as every one reported - regardless of firmware/bootcode, HD-DVD isn't supported by the PBO.
