Default cannot access gearbox via windows xp

xp recognizes gearbox and prompts for username and password everytime you try to access it, after keying them, another prompt pops up asking for the username and password again, this time however there's this heading on the prompt box that says "connect to smb". after keying the 'admin' username and password, same prompt will appear and on the username it says - SMB\admin, and since the password box is blank, you key in the password, and same prompt appears again, this has been happening all the time, and i can't find so far a workaround the problem. in a nutshell, xp can't access the gearbox. any hints?

I think you're having the same issue I was having when I first bought it. When you log in to the web interface, have to format the drive using the "Disk Utility" on the left side. After that, you have to enable SMB and then create a user. You can then use that user credential to access the drive using Windows.

I have noticed this behavior also, even after doing a format, SMB enable, and creating a new user. I have noticed that if you log out of XP, log back in, access the GearBox network share it will popup the user login dialog box and it will accept the new user. What is weird is that is will seem to use this user from here on out in Windows Explorer and if I want to access a different user on the GearBox, I have to log out of XP again, etc.

I am having the same problem using XP and the Patriot Gearbox. I can't get into the UI. I keep getting the user name and password popup window. After three attempts I get a 401-authorization error. I have tried user name admin and password and also left the password blank. This is trivial stuff and I am getting discouraged. Any help would be appreciated.

    thnx,
    J

let me just add this thought - what's important to keep in mind is after accessing gearbox's web user interface, you need to create a smb account with password (click smb server, then click the 'new' tab, a new screen will pop up and here key in your smb account name (say gearbox) and password, and click 'add'). now, you need to map this in your windows explorer (choose the 'tool' drop down menu, the click on 'map network drive'. a new pop up box will appear, choose a drive letter to assign your gearbox e.g. X, then type this on the next box below - \\192.168.2.xxx\gearbox (the ip address should be the one that was origanally generated by 'search disk' java program you installed right off the bat in your pc that came with the gearbox cd, and the 'gearbox' is obviously your smb account name). an icon should right after start to show in your windows explorer the gearbox's network drive e.g. gearbox (X) . once you click on this icon, a pop up box will appear, in this case, type in your smb account name (gearbox) for username and password (whatever it was you inputted). this should bring you to your hard drive attached to the gearbox hardware.

As i also had this problem (the system was working, Gearbox was working fine after hard drive formated and SMB user created, but suddenly i was unable to log in to the folders) and checked the Net Disk Setup. It was wierd, that the disk information give "Disk Not Found!" results...
I think this problem generated by the crapy 1.27 firmwire, hope Patriot will solve as it was promised months ago....

These posts are months old, and are not being monitored anymore. It also sometimes takes more than a day for someone to get back to you, since this is not patriot support. If you have an issue with basic functions not working, then contact patriot directly here: http://patriotmemory.com/support/supportRequestp.jsp

In the mean time, stop cross posting/necro posting (posting the same problem multiple times, and posting to old threads.) Its generally considered 'rude.'
