PBO supports text-type subtitles such as srt, ssa, sami... They are limited to some languages, even you use unicode-based text. The specific characters in those languages may not show up on the screen.
To show ANY language characters, you have to use picture-type subtitles (like subtitles used in DVD and blu-ray), in this case, idx/sub does the job.
The most popular software to convert srt to idx/sub is Subtitle Creator. It serves well in WD HDTV, however the subtitles not show up with PBO or other Realtek-chip like Asus O!Play. Interestingly, I've found idx/sub subtitle created by another free program called "txt2vobsub" can show up in all those media players. With some tune up, you'll have very decent subtitles in HD resolution in comparison with coarse characters created by Subtitle Creator.
