I flashed with the USB drive and a hard drive is already inside. I formatted it once after reboot with torrent option installed. No problem at all.
I have decided to flash it to the new firmware, and put in a fresh drive and then format it... any problems? I'll report on my results
what size of hard drive do you have in your box?
also... I tried to replace the drive but the people at the store said it was functioning normally and passed their tests, so obviously its the box office... but that was purchased a couple months ago and I don't have the receipt (I hate losing receipts)... but either way if all else fails I'll just get an external enclosure for the drive and use it through usb... sux, I and I lose the BT/Samba... but at least my drive is usable... I have a 640... anyone know of problems with the PBO and drives larger than 500?
Though, I think there is a bigger problem, when I originally inserted the 640 it worked without a hitch, the only reason I upgraded firmware was because of a networking issue (basically the wireless connection wasn't sustained for very long)... upon the update I wanted to get rid of the annoying "format your drive" warning so I backed up my stuff and formatted it, I've tried to format the drive several times in both the new firmware and the old (since I first upgraded)... this being said since then I have not been able to format any drive properly... I plugged in an 80 GB drive which has had no problems and the PBO can't format the drive at all... what would cause this issue? Is my PBO deffective? am I not flashing it right? is there an extra step I can take in preparing the drive ahead of time? at this point I'm one step away from trying to find one dirt cheap on ebay that hasn't been tampered with at all and just buy it... on the other hand I could just slap it in an enclosure and work from usb (it has no problems there)
If there something you want to do to undo whatever changes the PBO did to your HDD you can connect the PBO to your PC (PBO will act as an enclosure for the drive), then remove all the partitions on it (using DiskManagement service on XP/Vista/Win7). You can leave it in its raw state (or format it in NTFS) then unplug the PBO hock it back to the TV and format the HDD when prompted.
Hope that helps,
the problem with that is... I've tried that... I believe that the PBO just is unable to format, is that an issue with my box? with the flashing of the firmware? did I break it beyond repair?
I noticed that the latest firmware release no longer states "beta." Is it different than the beta version? I really don't to have to reformat my hard drive unless this post-beta version is superior to the beta.
I have a 40GB drive inside for testing. I also have a WD 640GB from Black Friday, I might try it on the weekend if I have time since I need to try the replacement fan too.
please do tell me how it works... I hope it works, because it used to and now the only way it will is if it is USB'd in through an enclosure and that's just such a pain in the butt... I'll go back to the way it was, but its the less of two evils as it were... I'm very happy with it I just wish I could get it to recognize and format my drive right!
