How fast is PBO? Is it normally that my upload/download speed is less than 4Mb?

Depending on the version of firmware on your box and the direction of the transfer reports are between 4~7 MB/s.
[*]Still new..? check the wiki. [*]Your shares gone for no reason ? Create a machine shortcut. [*]Trashing the G-adapter? upgrade cheaply to N. [*]Getting the hang of it? get organized .. add share shortcuts. [*]Getting sick of it ? it never hurts to rant here [*]Wishing for the time machine? give your PBO a makeover. [*]Bricked it while doing so ? unbrick it for $5[*]Not into cross flashing? keep it semi-official [*]Too lazy to read all that ? you asked for it.[*] Thank U PBO

This also works for Windows VIsta. I am currently xferring files from this PC to my PBO.
    THANKS

    Firstly, configure Sharing and Discovery:

    1. Navigate to the Network and Sharing Center via the Control Panel
    2. Click on the down arrow icons and select ON/OFF as follows:
    Network Discovery - ON
    File Sharing - ON
    Public Folder Sharing - OFF
    Printer Sharing - ON
    Password Protected Sharing - OFF
    Media Sharing - OFF

Next, configure the folder you want to share:

    1. Select the folder
    2. Right-click and choose 'Share' from the menu
    3. From the drop-down box select the Everyone (All users in this list) account, making sure permissions are set to 'Reader'
    4. Click the buttons Add, Share and Done.

Default PBO connecting to Windows 7 w/o login

After a lot of time & frustration, I've finally gotten the PBO happily working on my network. Now I think I tried everything in this thread so perhaps I missed something but regardless, none of the network or registry changes seemed to make a difference. So I wanted to summarize what did work for me in the hopes that it will help others.

    Starting point:
Windows 7, 64 bit, clean install. Physically networked to a DLink DIR-825 that provides the wireless for everything else.

my network consists of 5 devices:
1 - Windows 7 desktop acting as a file share
    2 - Windows 7 laptop
3 - Samsung tv (built in media player) - wireless
    4 - WD media player - wireless
    5 - Patriot BO - wireless

The WD & PBO are fully patched to production current firmware.

I Setup a homegroup on the Win7 Desktop, enabled all media streaming options and setup the file shares. The laptop & Samsung tv could connect & stream all shared media flawlessly. The WD was totally flakey - generally it timed out when navigating the file shares. The PBO would always find the highest folder structure ("logon successful" message showed) but as soon as I tried to select a folder, it prompted me for the realtek_guest login / password credentials. After seemingly trying everything, I did a windows restore to revert it to the state it was in when I first installed Windows. Quick homegroup & network setup - again, the laptop & tv streamed perfectly. From there, I decided to share one specific subfolder rather than the entire tree. Strangely that worked. Then I checked all the permissions and noticed that on that one folder there was a new set of permissions: "everyone" read-only. I then added "everyone" to the root media folders (not the drive, the folders) with read-only. Now all shared media shows up, on all devices. I'm not sure if there are security implications to this but I can't imagine it being less secure than some of the other options suggested. Plus I have the wireless router locked up pretty tight, so someone would have to hack that to get to the network - and even then, all they would be able to do is watch videos...

In short, these are the actual changes I made after rolling Windows back & recreating the homegroup.

under network & sharing, homegroup & sharing options, advanced sharing settings:
    network discovery - on
file & printer sharing - on
media streaming, choose media streaming options - allow all
    password protected sharing - off

in Windows media player, under "stream", select "automatically allow devices to play my media"

In Windows explorer under "Libraries", I added the root media folders to the "Videos" library.

On the root media folders, select "share with", "specific people" and then "everyone". Default permissions appeared to be read-only and that's working fine.

That worked for me and all devices are (so far) running happily.

    cheers.

This is not a fix, you have lowered the security of password transmission for windows and it is now sending passwords WITHOUT encryption. This will affect all the servers that you now connect to from your machine once this is enabled. Patriot, please provide a timleine for this issue.

    Thanks.

This is the same nonsense you posted earlier in the Valkyrie section. I will post the SAME ANSWER as I did before.

NTLM v1 does NOT send your password in cleartext. Authentication begins with the server (the Valkyrie) sending an 8-byte random number (challenge). Your PC uses its credentials to make a hash with the 8 byte challenge, DES encrypts the answer, and sends a 24 byte response, if the Valkyrie comes up with the same response internally, then it accepts that your computer knows the 'secret hash' (or at least a secret hash that generates the desired result).

This is outdated, though provides reasonable security in a home setting. If your home network is hostile enough to require something stronger, then ntlm v2 sure as hell isn't going to be strong enough. It simply replaces the hash algorithm with HMAC-MD5. I would recommend a device that supports implicit FTPS using a trusted certificate authority. This is, in fact, what I personally use at my house for both public and private use. My preferred certificate vendor is Verisign.

But they have, on occasion, bribed me with hardware.

I am happy to help, but don't PM me. Post a thread in the appropriate forum so others may benefit and offer assistance.
Your lack of planning is not an emergency on my part.

    Help,
Have been working on this network connection between the PBO and Win7 64Bit for 8 days
Have read sticky, tried the reg tweeks (3 times after running windows restore.)
Shared folders tips contained in sticky 3 times.
Spent the first 2 days trying to get a wifi adapter to work. Replaced with one I think is working.
    Question 1
is the lan light supposed to remain on?
    Question 2
Is "infrastructure" the choice of connection
After choosing infrastructure the net choice is...
/.../ after clicking on this it gives me a login screen which I have not been able to enter. It has my router network name.
    or
workgroup - after clicking this login is successful but all i see is /Venus/BT/info etc.
I've checked my firewall - OK
I have everyone selected on the shared folder.

    Please help

found something interesting, not sure if it has been reported yet. I uninstall windows live essential on my 32 bit windows 7, and samba share started working again. So I saved the password and then I reinstall Windows live essential back. But Samba share still works and so does my windows live messenger etc. This trick only works for 32 bit windows 7.

I just want to tell you that I tried everything that is written in this post and at the end, I tried to turn ON the BT & Samba and everything worked perfectly. Setup / Network / System, and you can choose ON or OFF.

Hope it will help desperate people like I was yesterday!

    Good luck
