Default Output cutting out for 1-2 seconds intermittently

Has anyone experienced an issue with audio and video cutting out during playback of anything? It does not seem to be limited to to a specific connection/storage type or media type. It has cut out during:

    HDD playback
    USB playback
    NET playback
    low-quality AVI, 720p and 1080p MKV, MP3, etc...

I have a very basic setup... I just have the supplied HDMI cable plugged in from the PBO directly into a Sharp Aquos 42" D85 LCD TV. I have tried a different HDMI input on the TV as well.

It's almost as if someone unplugged the HDMI cable for a second and then plugged it back in, or someone switched the input on the TV and then back to the PBO.

Finally, I have even swapped the entire PBO unit from the retailer I got it from. Both units are no more than a week old. Could this be a flaw of some sort in the firmware or HDMI controller? I am at a loss...

try to set your HDMI to a specific output setting, i.e. 720P, 1080i, 1080p under TV system. Let us know if there is any problem, but it's very rare that two units are showing up same issues. How long have you had the TV for? can you provide TV's full part #?

I will try the output mode as described, thank you.

I've only had the TV for a couple months. It is a Sharp Aquos LC42D85U.

I changed it to 1080p instead of AUTO, and it did cut out after about 30-45 minutes. I changed it to 720p and did not have a noticeable cut out after about an hour. But I will keep playing it for another couple hours to see if it happens again.

I did notice on the PBO it says 1080p 60Hz. The Aquos D85 series TVs are 120 Hz. Is there possibly a conflict with the Hz differences? Could a firmware update resolve this issue?

Sharp Aquos is a very common brand of TV, and it would be a shame if the PBO was frowned upon due to incompatibility with the Aquos series of TVs...

that should be backward compatible.... the cut out is definitly a refresh rate issue.

can you check if there is any setting on the TV for it?

I haven't had a moment to check, but last time I checked I didn't have to adjust anything with any other peripheral that I plugged into my TV. As long as it had the right connections, it just simply worked. I don't want to have to degrade my TV settings in order for a peripheral to work.

FYI: I've played about 3-4 hours on 720p and no cut-outs yet.

UPDATE: There are no real definable settings on the TV that will let me fiddle with the resolution to help anything. It still cuts out on HDMI Auto and 1080p. 720p seems to be fine however. This is very frustrating...

Angry Same problem with LG 42LG60 LCD

I have an LG 42LG60 (Scarlet) 42-inch LCD HDTV and experience the same problem with video cutting out with my PBO. Exact symptoms as the OP: 120Hz LCD, 1080p, regardless if media is playing on HDD, NET or USB.

It occurs less with 720p than 1080p 60Hz. Too bad most of my videos are 1080p. Grrrrr....

Hope Patriot can resolve this issue soon!

Default Not the video, more the output RES.

    I have done some testing,

and i seem to get choppy playback, turning movie preview off does not help.

I found if i change my output VIDEO from 1080p to 480p it will play just fine, no more chopping.

720p does not help me too much, it still does chop / skip / play with stutter.

I think the hardware is not FAST enough to play full 1080p smoothly. Granted 50% of my video is fine, but the good moves that use high bit rate and nice looking faster moving scenes do not play smooth, they chop! Personaly its a hardware limitation, and i dont think any firmware can fix this issue.

NETGEAR 9150 here i come (500 dollers later)
