Default Anyone else have this issue?

So, I was never getting excellent performance from my 64GB torqx. I always had a feeling that something was not right about it. Too bad I bought from New egg and not locally... Because all of a sudden I got a "disk boot read error". Then everytime I tried to load reinstall windows it would load verrrry slowly and then hang when "starting windows" was displayed. Then I tried AHCI and my 128GB torqx and all was good. Now the drive shows up, but the benchmark lags, in hd tune, and no drive information shows up.

It got so bad that I had to switch out of IDE mode just to get windows back up and running.

I tried to call tech support, but as usual, noone answered.

Does this sound like a bad drive? Anyone had similar issues?

I guess so. But, like I said, they work now. The 128 works great, but the 64 shows no info. Yet, it sorta works. It will run a performance test but hangs alot during the test and performs bad.

I have no idea if this helps or not, but I'll post and you can decide.

I run my DELL XPS Gen 5 on the default setting:

    RAID Autodetect/AHCI

    other options are

    1. RAID Autodetect/ATA
    2. RAID ON
    3. Combination

I run Patriot TRIM in less than 15 seconds and all else appears to be just fine**. Benchmarks with HD Tune are steady at an average of 204-206 MBs.

As far as I can tell I don't even have the IDE controller option with this machine.

**except the power option deal mentioned in another thread.

What power option deal are you refering to? Can you link thread for me please?

Yeah, my read bench on the 128 gets around 200 average. My 64 gets around 170 ish average. Which probably is normal for those drives, but the write is around 90. Kind of low right? And then there is this other issue I just went through. Do you think the other issue was because of having it set to IDE? Maybe IDE wasn't jiving well with my setup?

The power option refers to setting the display to go off in 20 minutes. I mentioned here:

To be honest, I have no idea bout the IDE/AHCI selection. I only posted my settings because I have seen IDE mentioned so much and I don't even have it. I also don't seem to have any issues.

I wish I could be more help, this SSD thing is still pretty new to me.

Is it possible to try the AHCI setting w/o wrecking everything?

Well, like I posted already, I had to wreck everything and reset to AHCI in order for it to work again. It wasn't the mobo either as I tried to get it to work on both controllers. AHCI does seem a lot faster thought, and the tech support guy at EVGA said that it is more compatible from what he has seen. Funny because I have heard the oppisite.

BTW, I know what power option you were refering to now, as I posted in that thread. Lol.

I didn't have problems running in AHCI but sure did when I used the "performance restore utility" it HAS to be in IDE to use it. I also asked in the "IDE or AHCI" thread what to use and Patriot Ben said they recommend IDE for less overall problems. IDE or AHCI is a complicated issue for me. I ran my Torqx in AHCI for 2 months and saw GREAT performance....

Why does it "have" to be run in ide? I just ran it and it took about 1 minute. Kind of strange, but last time I tried in ahci it took 3 hours (with the 64gb drive of course). Is it going to hurt the drive to run in ahci mode?

There is no requirement for IDE, it is simply more efficient. No, it will not hurt the drive.

I believe Ben recommended IDE mode for maximum compatibility and stability between the system, the drive, and the performance restoration software considering the vast difference in performance between the two modes.

I'm sure it will be a different story once standard ATA-TRIM is supported.
