Default How exactly to disable prefetrch

I have had a heck of a time with this. Every time I look at what's being written to my SSD, it's the prefetch as #1 offender. I have done this....

    HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\PrefetchParameters
    Enableprefetcher to 0
    EnableSuperfetch to 0

I don't see anything in "services" unless it has a sneaky name. Like "Windows super-duper yada yada"

How do you disable prefetch? I am running Windows 7.

That's the right reg edit. Where does it says what's being written? Screenshot?

I will post one this week. That system is down right now waiting for a new motherboard.

In the resource monitor it just shows writes and a lot of the time, the #1 is prefetch, it's not even system.*** It says "prefetch" so I know I have missed something. I have read to disable it in "services" but I see nothing by that name in "services"

I will post a screenshot. I am using a normal HD now and can't even see it on the list. I have changed the registry setting back to "1" - "0" is disabled.

Look in the prefetch folder and see if there is anything being writen. It will show the last date something was written. Then you will know for sure or not if prefetch is running. C>WINDOWS>PREFETCH.

Mine is disable the same as yours and there is nothing writen after the OS was installed. You should also disable superfetch in the services menu.

EDIT: btw, I am also on Win 7.

Are you supposed to edit the values in hexadecimal or decimal? Hexadecimal is default when you edit it so I have done it that way.

Hex should be set to 0 from 3.

They are already at 3. They need to be at 0 is my understanding. (to be off)

No worries. I didn't write it in the most logical way.
