There are some threads here on changing /etc/config/samba/lib/smb.conf, and about trying to keep the changes permanent. I have modified my smb.conf, but I find that the media server apps are...
Western Digital 2TB and 3TB SATA work well.
WDC WD30EZRX-00MMMB0 FW:80.00A80 Capacity:2794.52 GB
WDC WD20EADS-00S2B0 FW:01.00A01 Capacity:1863.02 GB
WDC WD20EARS-00MVWB0 FW:51.0AB51...
I would also like to reorg/hide many of the default folders. I figure a safe way would be to put a delay of a minute or two before overwriting the booting version in /usr/local/samba/lib/smb.conf....
I just added a WD 3 TB (WDC WD30EZRX-00MMMB0), firmware 80.00A80, shows up as 2794.52 GB. It works. Unfortunately the 250 GB drive that was originally in the first bay that I moved to the fourth...
Thanks. I had tried the GUI, that didn't work. Root complained, but let me reset it.
It seems that my slow speed (see above) was caused by NetGear router bug (DHCPNACK) causing the IP address lease to be terminated unexpectedly, having weird consequences on the Javelin. I am putting...
It might be that the name mapping interface doesn't work for external drives. You might try adding a hard link using the rootkit interface from an existing folder to one on your external drive.
Try to create new folders first before removing the old ones. :)
I have created new folders that actually make the first drive look like it contains all my volumes, by putting links to those drives...
I set a guest password, now I can't unset it, and a bunch of other appliances don't remember the password for guest. :(
How to recreate a user with no password?
I have also noticed this behavior recently, getting 300KB/sec on a quiet GB network after a few weeks of 5-files-a-day copies. Rebooting put it back to 10MB/sec+. Also have 2TB WD Green, and they...
There's always a weakest link (performance) in every system. It could be your lan, your drive(s), your NAS, your PC.
If you test the USB drive performance (hopefully empty) on a PC, it is likely...
Send your outbound email via your ISP's outbound smtp server, that doesn't need much security.
Between the web Home screen (http://javelin/admin/index.php) and Admin screen (http://javelin/admin/ns_main.php) as well as others, the click-on hotspots are inconsistent: sometimes you need to click...
I have been debugging an issue with my DGN2200 DSL/Wifi/router that causes it to erroneously emit DHCPNACK 12 hours after granting a lease. WinXP explorer actually crashes when that happens, but as...
Appreciated the feedback. Unfortunately the last two RAIDs that failed were Baracudas, and I can give the remaining drives to you if you like them that much. They grew hard errors like mold on...
It seems that the web Admin / FileNPrint / FileSharing / Create dialog doesn't recognize my VOLUME2, otherwise I could have skipping the above. Given the trouble of having the first VOLUME1 and...
Note that this method no longer makes the VIDEO folder visible to the web GUI, so you can't change permissions there, you have to do it using chmod.
There might still be an issue with my unit, my machine, or the Javelin. Running FXP mode for about 5 hours at ~90Mbits/sec seems to lose connection of both the FTP software and SAMBA connection from...
I believe that Windows tries to use the guest account if it doesn't know how to access something. I noticed that we can't enter a blank password through the GUI, maybe root can change the password...
I use telnet boxname 2380 (see rooter.ppg) to change the permissions of the new folders, otherwise only he who created them can access them.
http://www.wftpserver.com/download/ftprush.exe did the job using FXP / PASV as simple as SyncToy would have. No issues with huge files. Transfers two files at a time, about same net speed as a...
I recently telnet'd into Javelin S4 in an attempt to back up another NAS, and found that the command line FTP client has some issues:
- "binary" then "get filename" of a 3.35GB (3602001920) byte...
I did the following, just want to know if this is what is expected to be necessary (what about those people who don't know Linux?):
- installed rooter.ppg as application and rebooted
- telnet...
I created a single volume 250GB RAID0 array, which gets the 8 standard exported directories (Download, Music, etc), internally called VOLUME1. I then added a 2TB WD20EARS as a new RAID0 array, it...
I had to add a step 4B, logging in by ftp://myusername:mypassword@javelin/VOLUME1/UPLOAD and set the read/execute bits for the busybox file via WinXP.
