This thread is for Low-Level Format tool Requests. This tool is offered for Patriot USB Flash drives only. Please include your e-mail address and a brief description of the problem of your USB flash drive.

The most common fixes of this tool are for: drives that develop multiple bad sectors, write-protected, or stubborn viruses, drives that are detected in “My Computer” but are not accessible, or drives that become extremely slow due to degradation over time.

The purpose of this tool is to format your USB flash drive down to the cell level. Please make sure to backup any data BEFORE you use the low level format. YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO RECOVER ANY DATA ONCE YOU BEGIN.

Please advise that a low level format should only be done as a last resort. The misuse of this tool can PERMANENTLY DAMAGE your USB flash drive. Patriot Memory assumes no liability for any damage to the drive or data due to the low level format. For this reason, Patriot Memory will send this tool to customers via email under case-by-case scenario only.

Please help US help YOU... we will only respond if you leave an e-mail address. We understand your privacy concerns. Our mods will edit your e-mail address once the tool has been sent. We will do our best to get to you ASAP, HOWEVER because our forums are community-drive and not monitored by Patriot regularly, for faster response e-mail our support team directly at Support@Patriotmem.com.

I have a 4gb Patriot Xporter Usb drive. I tried using ReadyBoost and increasing performance on my computer, but I got this error saying that it didn't have the characteristics to use readyboost on the drive. So I then tried using the format option and got a write protection error. Tried formatting on other computers and it still didn't work.

I tried Pming you, but it wouldn't allow me for some reason.

Hi,
I bought PEF8GUSB (X-porter XT Boost 8GB) today aND after testing it with "Flash memory toolkit" its name changed to "USB Disk 30X". Before testing its speed was ~200X but now is ~135X (Read speed=~20MB/s). How could I have the first speed?!:( Can it be repaired with low level format? If low level format can solve the problem please send it to my e-mail:
thanks.

I know I am responsible for this error and it's my fault but if there is any way or any software to repair this problem, please help me.

After using this drive for about a year I've been experiencing some data corruption with it, especially where there are constant read/writes involved.

I've tried reformatting and checking the drive in Vista and Linux, but neither really seem to give any indication the device is failing, however I'm still a bit skeptical of the results, so I would like to try a low level format.

Hi,

I bought the Xporter XT Boost 16gb just today. I reached a value of 14-15 mb/s in my benchmark, which was actually very nice, but then after formating with Fat32 under Windows XP, the speed dropped to 6,5mb/s. Changing the format to NTFS didn't increase the speed either.

We would recommend that you check with your usb drive manufacturer to see if they would offer one. Our program is designed only for Patriot Flash Drives. Furthermore for liability reasons we don't recommend our low level format tool on another brand flash drive.

Hey all.
Xporter 16GB, formatted to NTFS.
checked it with DiskBench:

Standard flash drive,2gb 180mb file
write speed: 4.5Mbit
read speed: 16.5Mbit

Xporter 16gb, 180 mb file
write speed: 10Mbit
read speed: 25Mbit

Xporter 16gb, 550mb file
write speed: 7.5Mbit
read speed: 26Mbit

I can test bigger files, since I'm usually moving movie files from standard 700mb divx to 13Gigs of Mkv's... if you need me to check it to verify.
or should I check the flash drive with a different tool that maybe checks other things too?

Anyway, if I need the low level format tool

thanks.

ATTENTION EVERYONE

stop buying this DRIVE (at least the 64GB Magnum) a FATAL flaw I have made sure to test multiple times in the "disk is write protected" problem has been discovered!

if you remove the drive or it gets disconnected (in the original case my power for the USB hub i was using came unplugged) during a read/write session it will FLAG the drive to become "disk is write protected", I have tested this over and over, I was running XAMPP and visiting the site from the system it was plugged into and while it was loading i unplugged it!!! BAM "disk is write protected" EVERY SINGLE TIME!!!

if their is a way for Patriot to fix/update this it needs to be done, I have this thing on safe removal and sometimes things like accidental removal when its still being used happens especially alot for me, for it to FLAG the drive as "write protected" EVERY SINGLE TIME yet all data is intact SOMETHING IS WRONG, it needs to be fixed, hell a tool even that resets this FLAG in the flash drive would be nice, i have reformatted my drive using this tool over 16 times now because of this stupid "bug/safety measure (im assuming whoever at patriot built this failsafe in thinks of it as a safety measure instead of a huge pain in the *** especially with 64GB of data to copy/replace on the drive each time)"

very pissed off soon to be ex-customer

Ben,

The tool WORKS, thats NOT THE PROBLEM, the problem is that any time the drive is removed during a write/read session EVERY TIME it marks the FLAG on the flash drive to make the drive WRITE PROTECTED, meaning anytime its removed improperly people are going to have to COMPLETELY remove all 64gb (or if other models are affected those sizes as well) and then format and then RECOPY back to the flash drive!

So either an update for the drive needs to be made to NOT flag the WRITE PROTECTION on unsafe/inuse removal OR An updated tool needs to be released that VERIFY's the drives data/integrity and changes the WRITE PROTECTION FLAG to UNFLAGGED so I dont have to spend 8+ hours doing Copy/Format/Copy it takes forever and is TOTALLY UNCALLED FOR!!!

This is not something first or probably even second level support can fix, give me an e-mail address to send this complaint to and I will, this is a retarded way of fixing the drive if a program could just be made to UNFLAG the write protection FLAG that the device seems to use on unsafe/inuse removal!

Patriot_Ben
10-28-2009, 11:43 PM
You should only be using the format tool on one or two occasions. If your drive became permanently write-protected in an unstable state it sounds like the drive is defective first and foremost on a hardware level and needs to be returned.

Can you clarify...?

Are you removing the drive while it's in read or write progress? Or did it accidently get disconnected? If so, We DO NOT recommend removing the drive DURING a read/write. This holds true for any flash drive for any brand if a drive is improperly removed.

Can you post a screenshot of the error Flag message? It sounds like it's an error message submitted by your Operating System if it is detecting that the drive is removed or disturbed during a read or write. If the error message comes even if the drive is not removed, it's simply the O/S detecting a bad transfer from a faulty drive and I don't see anyway around resetting this message.

I have your email address, if you could provide me with the screenshots and answer the questions (bold) above I can forward it to the flash team.

I have Patriot XT 32GB and I'm trying to remove files from it, but it says it's write-protected.
I would like to wipe (format) my pendrive and get rid off that write-protection.
How can I do that?
Please send me the low level format tool at

Thank you in advance,

Hi.

This is a question to Patriot Memory Support Staff, but anyone who has used Formatter-2.9.0.3.exe may be able to help me.

I ran Formatter-2.9.0.3.exe, and it says, "Press OK to start formatting the disk." Now, I ran this .exe from my C:\ (local hard disk on the computer), so does it mean it will format my C: (I hope not!)...
In other words, how does it know which disk to format, and why doesn't it give me an option to select the disk I want to format!?
I'm too afraid to continue (it's probably fine, but want to make sure), so any help would be appreciated.

No it should not format your main C Drive. The Low Level Format Tool will search for a usb drive and format the drive itself. To be safe I would just move the software to the desktop and run it from there, but to my knowledge I haven't heard of a case where it formatted a hard drive.

I bought Patriot Signature Dash USB Flash Drive 8GB in Fry's a few days ago, but unfortunately it does not work, when I tried to copy files, it shows "write protect", when I tried to format it, the same error message shows. I heard I need some low-level format tool can format it, could you send that tool to me?

Low level format tool plz
emal:

I have an xporter XT 16GB. My first use of it was to create a bootable installer of Windows 7 to install on my netbook, after that I formatted it (NTFS) on Windows 7, but file transfers to/from XP at my machine at work are incredibly slow (with just 10mb or so the "time remaining" increases to like 20 min, I've cancelled the transfer each time). I tried reformatting it again on win7 (NTFS) and it worked as expected on there, but then again it was practically unusable on XP. What's more, is on XP, it only gives the option to reformat it to FAT32, while on win7 it gives me options for NTFS and exFAT as well, otherwise I would've tried reformatting it on XP too to see if that would've helped

It's possible the virus might be taking a toll on the read and write speeds.

Thanks.

Hi,

A few weeks ago, your team sent the low-level formatting program to my Lycos.com email address after I described a problem I was having with the 16GB Exporter not being recognized under Vista & NTFS. Unfortunately, after changing the zip/rar extension to .exe, when I go to run the program, a message comes up saying "This is not a valid Win32" application. I'm guessing it got corrupted during the transfer to my email address. Could you please send it to my alternate email address listed below? I'm still having the same problem. TIA.

Hi. Been experiencing issues with the transfer rates of a brand new X-Porter 8GB USB Flash Memory Drive. I first noticed a problem when I formatted the drive from within Windows XP. While the format claimed success it took several hours (2-3) to finish. Please send the Low Level Format tool and/or any questions to: benignflux (at) gmail (dot) com.

Edit: It's been awhile since I've posted this. Here's the email in a easily parse-able form just in-case this is automated.

Drive: X-Porter USB Flash Memory Drive - 8GB

Serial: PS000491 - PSF8GUSB

Symptoms: Slow transfer speeds. Writing to the drive takes ages and reading is no better. A standard format (Windows XP - Format as FAT32) takes several hours and after it completes some files copied to the device still return corrupted. Please send the Low Level Format tool as soon as possible, I purchased it Friday and have been unable to use it all weekend. Thanks.

I think I need to obtain a copy of the Patriot low-level format tool to restore function to my new 4 GB Xporter USB drive.

I tried to make a Knoppix USB boot drive, using the Knoppix 6.2 flash-knoppix utility. The utility appeared to copy the 4 GB Knoppix 6.2 boot DVD to the drive (which took a while!). Attempt to reboot the system using the USB boot drive failed - USB drive not recognized during reboot.
Unfortunately, now the USB drive is not recognized at all in Knoppix and is also unusable in Windows. Under windows Xp SP3, it detects the existence of the hardware, but reports it as unknown size and format, and resists any attempt to format or access it in Windows Xp.

I would appreciate any hints for further troubleshooting and repair of the USB drive.

Does this Low Level Tool let the user "Pick" the type of format we want? If I want the drive to be exFAT and not FAT or NTFS, can I pick? Is it DOS or Windows base? I would be curious as to what the "low level" is doing different than a standard or quick format.

LLF formats it back to default FAT. It is Windows based and formats it on a cellular level.

Hi; I have a silicon power usb flash memory (4G) and have protected it with "usb disk security" progarm.
But my flash is corrupted and low level format tool didn't work. After I execute this tool, it respond that "Device info block is corrupted, please return via RMA".

Hi I have a Patriot Xporter XT 16Gb (PEF16GUSB) Write speeds are slow at around 8mbs, H2testw gives this result:-

Test finished without errors.
You can now delete the test files *.h2w or verify them again.
Writing speed: 8.55 MByte/s
Reading speed: 29.0 MByte/s
H2testw v1.4

If this is something the format utility is likely to correct would you please send a copy to [email]

Did you see my reply a few pages back? Furthermore, we only recommend using the tool once as a last resort type of thing. You might need an RMA if your drive is messed up beyond a certain point. I understand your frustration, however if you have any technical issues please comply to our responses, especially if you posted about a specific issue you had or send an email out to support@patriotmem.com. Otherwise any further random outbursts WILL NOT be tolerated.

Hi,

I have recently purchased a patriot xt 8gb flash drive, I formatted it to NTFS and all was working ok for a while but for some reason now when I plug drive in it is recognised in My computer and is now back to fat32 ? when I try to access it, it 'hangs' and the light on the stick is constantly flashing. I can right click on it and access its properties but it will not let me format (I have attached prtsc image)

Any help with this problem would be appreciated.
Thanks :)

Of course when I got my new brand new patriot XT 8GB stick in brand new from new egg, I couldnt use it because it too (in addition to everyone elses it seems) is write protected. I'm kind of upset about this as it's my first try at with a patriot product after switching from kingston. Hope this is not a sign of things to come. Also not too happy about having to register to be able to get the low level format tool in a timely manner. It doesnt seem to have been sent to my email address after I emailed tech support.

CAN YOU PLEASE SEND ME THE FORMAT TOOL SO I CAN FIX YOUR BRAND NEW PRODUCT?

Not sure if this will fix my problem, but I'm willing to try before asking for an RMA on my one year old drive.

I spent all night trying to figure out why it was taking 5+ seconds a file when trying to install XP over flash drive tonight on my netbook, when I changed flash drives to an old 2GB one I had laying around, the installer finally moved at the pace it's supposed to.

I'm doing a full format (as opposed to the usual "quick format" option I alway select) with the HP tool so I can't find actual read/write numbers (I don't even know how to do this, honestly) but I'd like to request this tool in hopes it will speed up my drive to it's previous speeds once again.
