I have a 1GB USB flash memory (http://www.sourcingmap.com/1gb-c-987_1452_1823.html). When I plug into my computer at work (win2000 pro), the system detects it and a little icon shows up at the lower right corner of the task bar. However, the drive itself does not show up in My Computers, and I can't find it anywhere. Hi. My Patriot XPorter XT Boost 200x 16GB started acting strangely two weeks ago. Read speed is ok (25-29MB/s), but write speed becomes lower and lower with every time i format it. Last week it was about 5-7 mb/s, now it came down to 1-2 mbit/s, sometimes it goes up to 4 mbit.

I've tested it on many computers and it seems that it works a little better on PC's equipped with Vista/7 systems than on XP's. On the other hand i've compared the speed of copying the same 6 GB file (on XP system) with my friend's pendrive with similar parameters. His drive could write it with speeds up to 10-15 MB/s, while mine copied the same file with maximum speed barely reaching 3 MB/s.

Please send me that low level format tool, so i can try to fix this.

I formatted my 16gb Patriot XPorter to NTFS one day to see if it would copy files faster and while it seems to "burst" copy them, it always freezes for about a minute at the end of the transfer as it plays catch up or something. Returning it back to standard FAT32 fixes it but it's not nearly as fast as it once was (or my other drive, which I've never formatted, which gets around a 12mb/s write).

As i explained before, windows was seeing my mem stick, it told me it wasnt formatted but refused to format it. Being a rather impatient chap, i found the low level format tool online, downloaded it, tried it and it didnt even see the memstick, so was a total waste of time.

So after googling found some articles (that say these USB memory sticks suffer from corruption quite often due to their speed pushing the performance envelope) i found an article referring to a utility called testdisk.

Using testdisk, i was able to see the memstick, see the contents, see deleted files, modify the contents, backup the contents, format as bootable or repartition it (plus a bunch of other options). There is a wiki on testdisk, explains how to use it and has a download link.

Net result was memstick now working again and its assigned again to readyboost. Why dont patriot just advise people to use that? would save customers a lot of stress and cost returning memsticks, probably save patriot a lot of cost in unnecessary RMA's.

I have a patriot xporter 16gb.

I performed a format with windows vista on the USB to get rid of some files that were stuck. For some reason they would not delete normally and could not be moved. So I tried windows format fat32 with device dafault setting.

After the format speeds dropped from 20mb to 3-4mb. I tested it withdifferent programs to confirm and the speeds were still slow.

I don't know what happened but my 32GB Patriot flash drive is now a 200MB flash drive!!!
I have Windows 7.
Tried to fix it via Manage - Disk Management
I can see the 30GB but when I click format I get an error saying:

Close the Disk Management console, then restart Disk Management or restart the computer.

I have tried those suggestions and I keep getting the same error.

well I got a xporter dash 32gb brand new.. first thing I did was to full format it in ntfs as stated but the drive just hangs in like 30%. I dont know what else to do.. and the speed is like 14 mbytes max reading and like 4 mbytes write..

well I tried the tool and did a full format but it froze my system! So I had no other choice that to reset the system. Well I wont do it twice as Patriot states it can only be used ONCE. Any way it still works and can do quick formats and well.. It "works".. but at slow speeds (still 14MB/S READ, 4 MB/S WRITE..

Oh and I found something odd.. The only way I could do a full format under windows is with exFAT.. No erros, no nothing. Mind you that I cannot do full formats with FAT32 and NTFS.

The computer does not recognize the flash drive when it is plugged in. It shows under devices and printers, however, I am not able to browse the folders (the Drive the USB is located in is grayed out).

I have a PSF16GDUSB 16GB Dash USB drive. It has been working great for several weeks. Recently, I went to erase it so that I could use it as a "live" USB copy of Ubuntu to boot my netbook. When I repartitioned it, it said the max partition size for the drive was 46MB. I've tried everything I can think of in Computer Management in Windows Vista... all of the options to partition or format the remaining 15+ GB of space are grayed out. I'm running Computer Management as an administrator. Windows help has been useless, and apparently the Diskpart command at the command line won't manipulate removable disk partitions, so I'm stuck. My USB drive is officially 46MB in size unless the low-level formatter works.

I bought a Patriot Magnum 64Gb about a week ago, and am having serious issues with it.

Initially formatted it with the windows formatter (not quick format) NFTS 32kb Cluster Size.

Every time I try to use more than approx 50% of the drive errors start.

Such as:-


"Delayed Write Failed"

“Please insert disk in drive F:” - it is visible in My Computer, message occurs when I try to access any files I can see in explorer.

Write errors with apps like portableapps.com launcher & various portable versions of programs like FireFox Portable.

Windows was unable to save all the data for the F:\$Mft. The data has been lost.

Windows was unable to save all the data for the F:\$Extend\$UsnJml:$5

‘PATRIOT (F::)’ is currently in use. If you eject this disk now, you may lose data in any open files……

Cannot open file ‘F:\.........’. The parameter is incorrect.


When these occur, the only way to get the drive working again is another format and copying the data across again (long time for 30+Gb!). I’ve done this 5 or 6 times now, and it’s just not functional.

I tried the Low Level Format tool, it formatted the 64GB Magnum successfully, according to the software, but when I tried to load it up it failed again at 50%. When I ran testdisk on it, at 50% upwards it got a 'read error'.

when inserting pendrive - blue led on it flashes a few times, windows detects pendrive inserted, assigns drive letter, but when i try to explore it i got message "insert disk (...)"

with some other utility (forgot name right now) i could see that this pendrive now has 0kb space assigned and also 0kb available.

normal format ends with the same message - no disk inserted

This drive worked fine the 5 or six times I used it. Now I can't access any files on it. When I insert it:
0. I'm running W XP latest patches.
1. the blue light goes on (no blinks)
2. if I right click my computer & select properties says that it has 0 mb used and 0 mb available
3. If I left click the drive it says "please insert disk....

I works this way on another XP computer.

I don't have any dataon this that needs to be recovered.

My goal is to get Ping working as described on the page in the link above. I have done it with other flash drives.

The drive seems to work although it does take longer for it to appear in Windows 7 than for other USB drives.

What are you using to get these scores? Try testing with ATTO.

If you are testing via file transfer, try to move one large file to verify. If you are transferring multiple files, speeds can slow down as it has to initiate every single file.

I have been using my 32gb Patriot Flash drive exclusively to play mp3 files in my car. After less than a year of relatively problem-free usage the flash drive no longer works and is not recognised in Wondows. The light flashes for a few seconds and Windows recognises something is plugged into that USB port, however it is no longer recognised as a memory drive.

I have a 32gig Patriot Xporter, and I thought that may be my jump drive locked up because I had used it so many times on so many different operating systems, that maybe I needed to go back to the computer where Linux and/or OSX is installed or being dual-booted. However, once I got here, I saw that about 400 other people were having the exact same problem. Hmmm.. Weird.

2GB Patriot, since xp3 is recognized only as usb 2.0 disk drive, but reads and writes at 1.0mbs suggesting only usb1. On laptop under vista 50:50 it can read write at 3mbs - Tried formatting under xp sp3 and vista to fat, fat32 and ntfs makes no difference. Think i need the tool. Xporter XT 32Gb. Everytime plug into PC (any PC with Win7) it takes 1 minute to initialize, and finally said "need to format" the drive. Select "Cancel" and the drive still can be used, but 1 minute is rediculous. About two weeks ago, I opened a brand new 8gb Xporter drive and it worked initially. Then I formatted it with FAT32 and ran an installer (from pendrivelinux.com, I think) which gave it a bootable linux installation. It provided a USB boot on one computer, but not another (which has previously been able to to boot from USB).

At this point, it would not show up in Windows XP on either of 2 machines, on either of their USB ports. The Low Level Format tool returned "USB Flash Drive not found!". Windows showed a bubble which reads "USB Device Not Recognized...." Nothing appeared in My Computer or Storage Manager.

Oddly, I was still able to boot into Linux with it so I booted into Linux, ran GParted, and formatted the drive as NTFS. The drive was still unrecognizable by the format tool, and Windows. Same results.

Upon inserting and pulling the drive again and again, I was able to hear the "babUm" and "babum" noises indicating new hardware has been detected and then unplugged. EDIT: (without me actually unplugging it. It seems there was a brief connection which was immediately lost). More inserting and pulling actually got the light to come on solid. More inserting and pulling and the drive showed up in My computer! I took the opportunity to run the Low Level Format Tool which completed successfully. Upon completion Windows reported "Some of your hardware was not installed correctly..." or something of the like. And the drive is back to being undetectable.

Problem: 32GB Patriot Xporter.... 1MB/s - 2MB/s reads after reformatting....

I reformatted the drive severl times with different file systems - currently fat32.... I purchased this large drive so that I could run the following configuration with a boot loader:

- partition1: 350MB ---- UBCD
- partition2: 1000MB ---- Live O/S
- partition3: <anything left> ---- Portable Apps

Obviously, I want you to send me the formatting utility - although I don't understand why you haven't just posted it for download on your site somewhere... But, in addition, please advise me on how you support the configuration above, since apparently the drive becomes almost useless after reformatting it with normal (non-Patriot, non-Proprietary) methods...

I have had the patriot magnum 32 gb drive for a while and accidently formatted it on my mac and now won't work. What you're seeing for this drive is actually normal.
Our Flex drive uses a COB (Chip on board) technology to save space and components.
Because of this, this drive is not intended for high-performance.

I performed a normal format in Vista64 for my Patriot Memory Dash 32GB USB Flash Drive
and now windows detects it but comes up as 0GB and I cant format it using the standard windows format. I cant even access it now. I hope the low level format tool will do the trick to revive the USB drive and I have been using it fine for the past months filling it up to capacity of close to 32GB many times. now I cant use it and feel like one of my arms has been cut off.

Before formatting to NTFS I have tested my Flash Drive(PSF16GFXUSB ) for write speed (9~11 Mb/s) & read speed (more 30 Mb/s !!!)

Unfortunately our tool is only for Patriot drives. If your drive is a Sony Brand, I would recommend contacting them to see if they provide any kind of similar tool.

Your lack of timely response to a simple request suggests that the problem with your thumb drives could be widespread, otherwise you would have responded or fulfilled the request.
