View Full Version : Audio out jack only sending one channel

I recall from an earlier thread that the Audio Out jack is actually an A/V out jack (with composite video).

My question is whether this should cause problems with alignment to the rings of a standard audio (L/R) cable.

The reason I ask is that my unit only sends audio to the left channel with an audio-only cable. If I pull slightly out on it, it will actually send audio to both, but with a noticeable hum in the sound. I have not yet tested whether the hum-laden audio is actually mono (ie, sending either R or L to both channels).

Any ideas?

You can not use a standard audio cable you need to use the proper video/audio cable. Using a standard audio cable could short out some of the output which isn't good. The humming is probably caused by a missing ground once you pull the connector a bit.

Hmmm. I'm a bit flustered, because as others have noted, the mockups of the rear of the box provided by Patriot were labeled "Audio Out".

More importantly, it seems from the earlier thread that this jack requires a very specific connector to function. There was no documentation of this with the unit, no compatible cable to use, and so far, no word on where to order one.
