So I just got the Javelin S4 unit. I have 3 x 2TB Drives (WD20EARS) that I want to use in them, they have about 2.7TB total data* on them and are formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled).

How would I go about using it? Would I have to format it into a RAID array? If so, which one should I choose and will I loose data? OR CAN I JUST USE THEM OVER THE NETWORK WITHOUT FORMATTING? If I have to format, I am OK as I will transfer the data onto a spare set of drives and put it back.

I am running on a MacBook Air 13" with 256GB SSD and Mac OS X Lion.

*Recently, I have removed all of the data I downloaded from "those sources, you know".

Javelin will format your 3 HDs. Hum, WD20EARS have a problem with idle parameters, I suggest to change Idle parameters using WD soft.:

I changed my two WD20EARS using WDIDLE3, see more information in this page:
