Thought I'd try here before contacting Support. Here's the situation...
When enabling the Javelin S4’s internal DLNA server, it begins a full scan of the data on the device. The web interface (Media Server -> Configuration) shows the “DLNA Server” “Status” as “ON” and the “File Scanner” “Status” as “Busy” and the “Full Re-Scan” button as greyed out.
The internal MySQL Server is enabled and running, and can be accessed via the PHPMyAdmin interface. (Probably worth noting that when I initially enabled the DLNA Server after getting the Javelin, I disabled MySQL from the web interface while the DLNA server was scanning (without realizing that it does(?)/might(?) (does anyone know for sure?) use MySQL.
My configuration has 4x2GB HDs in a RAID 5 configuration, and is ~90% full. (Have experienced the problem since the drive was ~60% full, however, and am pretty certain that's not the problem.)
The full scan takes ~ a full week (!!) to complete, but eventually does. (I thought for a long time that the scan hung/crashed because it took so long but recently left the scan running untouched while I was out of town for a week, and it completed the day I returned.)
However, the scan results do not persist: a reboot of the Javelin after the scan completed again showed the web interface “Information” “Statistics” numbers for all of “Songs”, “Videos”, and “Pictures” as “0” (though they were all in the hundreds/thousands before reboot.) The “Configuration” “Values” for minimum image, audio and video file sizes also do not persist after reboot. It also returns to “File Scanner” “Status” “Busy” with the “Full Re-Scan” button greyed out.
Early on in the process of diagnosing and troubleshooting the problem, I clicked the “Full Re-Scan” button in the web interface. Since that time, the button remains greyed out, the “File Scanner” “Status” always shows as “Busy”, regardless of if the “DNLA Server” “Status” “ON” or “OFF”, and remains that way even after reboot. The only time that changed was after the week-long full scan completed, “File Scanner” “Status” changed to (approximately - I didn’t record the exact status wording) “Monitoring Filesystem” and the “Full Re-Scan” button was re-activated. After a reboot of the Javelin, however, all settings were lost and returned to as described above.
When I examine MySQL, there is a “dlna” user and a “dlna” database, but the database is empty - i.e. without any tables or other structures in it, nor - obviously - any data.
So far I've tried at least the following (am already forgetting what I've all tried):
rebooting (multiple times, in multiple circumstances)
setting “Configuration” “Values” for minimum image, audio and video file sizes to scan to values intended to “lighten” the scan “load”
reinstalling the DNLA plugin from the Javelin Dashboard software
tried reinstalling from both OS X and Windows 7 versions of Javelin Dashboard
tried reinstalling while MySQL Server is running and while its stopped
tried reinstalling immediately before and immediately after a reboot of the device
tried reinstalling with the existing (empty/shell) “dlna” MySQL database in existence and with it dropped
tried reinstalling both the DNLA plugin and the MySQL plugin in both orders
At this point my suspicion is that the scan results not being saved might be because the MySQL “dnla” database structure or user were not created correctly - maybe because I turned off the MySQL Service during first run of the DNLA Server??
Is it possible for someone to send me a MySQLDump (export) of an empty “dnla” database structure/shell? And/or a dump of their “dnla” user records from the “mysql” database? Or point me to where I could get it?
Or alternately have any other ideas or possible solutions?
Thanks in advance!
