Problem playing avi file

[my_mini_18]

downloaded a video tape to computer in .avi format and got black screen when tried playing on PBO via USB-HDD.

PBO firmware: P61 for Bootcode 16
Ext HDD: Iomega 2T
AVI file size: 13G

Help please.

Obviously it is encoded in a format not compatible with the PBO. Avi is just the container what is the video encoding???
