Hello, all. I just got an Onkyo TX-SR608 receiver and I'd like to control it with the RC-765M remote which came with it. So far, Onkyo's online and phone support have failed. Phone support actually told me to, in effect, "go google it". So, well, I did (I already had been). What I've found it that the PBO uses the NEC1 IR protocol with a device code of 73. Some searching shows that Oppo uses that same protocol/code for some of their devices. Sadly, they use a vastly different key mapping. Some buttons did things--though not what they were labeled on the remote--while others gave the crossed red circle of denial. The only button that worked properly was the power button. What a cruel and misleading button to map perfectly.

So, does anyone have any experience with Onkyo receivers and PBOs? I really like the idea of having one remote for most everything I do. It would be nice for it to be this one. Failing that I'm going to have to dig out and reprogram that frustrating Logitec remote.

Thanks!

Sorry I know nothing about Onkyo remotes, but can't it learn via IR to IR (pointing the PBO remote at the Onkyo remote when it is in learning mode and pressing each key)? My Pioneer remote can do that.

I did post some links here:-

in case you can handle a ccf file...

good luck

2 words "Universal Remote"

having a surround system (onkyo). a wii, xbox, PBO and cable box I love my harmony one with its programmable activities. It works with PBO too.

Sadly, it's not a learning remote. It's just a standard universal remote that's been branded Onkyo. I'm sure there's a master list of devices somwhere, but I can't seem to find it. I did find a lit on Onkyo's site, but there is no PBO in it.

lp_Stealth,

Well, the remote *is* a universal remote. Ohter than the specialty remotes (and I suspect some of them, too) all remotes today are made by URC. I do have a Harmony 610, but I'm now over my 5 device limit. So, that's making it somewhat less useful to me.

A couple ideas then.

1) Get a Harmony one. I got mine on sale for 130 dollars. it can control all your devices (up to 15 I believe). Again I love mine.

2) If you are still using your 610 as well then program something else into your Onkyo remote and add your PBO to the Harmony.
