Hi guys,
I have just bought the Valkrie Dual Bay NAS and have a quick question re: adding hard drives.
I plan on initially using 1 2tb HDD in the device and then later adding another 2tb hdd (don't need backup capability, need 4tb of space eventually)
My question is if I have lots of data on the 1st HDD and I eventually go to add another - do I have to reformat both drives or can I simply add the second drive without losing the data on the first?
Many thanks in advance

Unfortunately in a Raid 0 you cannot. The drives would have to be formatted together initially. You can do this but only under Raid 1.

Thanks Ben. And does the same apply for jbod?
Also, what HDDs would people recommend? The person I bought the unit from told me to steer clear of WD's green series as he couldn't get them working with it.
I'm looking at these: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0042SGDVG?ie=UTF8&tag=nineteen-21&linkCode=as2&camp=1634&creative=19450&creativeASIN=B0042SGDVG

For jbod (or anything not Raid 1) it should be okay however you won't see them as one unified array, it would be as a seperate drive.
As far as recommended HDD's have you checked out our Qualified Vendors thread?

Hi guys,
I have an additional qustion re the concept of adding extra drives. I too have Valkyrie dual bay NAS and want to do the same thing, i.e. add another drive under JBOD. I note the comment that says that if this is done the second drive can only be recognised as a separate drive.
My first drive contains a whole bunch of recorded media/movie files which are all in a Public folder so that I can get to them from remote video players attached to TV's around my house.
I did it this way because the media players aren't clever enough to be able to log onto the Valkyrie with a password (they can't retain the password), so my question is: Is there any way to set up a 'public' folder on the new drive so that my remote players can see it and therefopre play stuff from it?
Thanks in advance for any help.
