ASUS M2N-E recognizes half of the memory

I just tried installing PSD24G800K (2X2GB DIMMS) into an ASUS M2N-E motherboard. When I boot the computer and go into the BIOS, only half of the memory capacity (2GB instead of 4GB) is recognized as being installed and useable. I tried installing only one of the 2GB DIMMS from the kit, and got the same result, only half (1GB) was recognized as being installed and useable. I have tried using different slots on the motherboard with the same result. Why is only half of the memory being recognized?

can you tell me how many chips is on the memory? also do you have a different system to test the memory on to see if it will still report it as a 1GB memory per stick?

I have the same issue with my Patrot Memory and a Asus M2N-Sli Deluxe...
it reports only half of the memory.....I have two sticks of 1 gig pc2 5300 or
PDC21gig 5300 llk mem...I even went into the asus bios and manuall set the timmings to 4-4-4-12 1T at 667 mhz....Awesome article on this RAM and timmings here http://www.guru3d.com/article/patriot-pc25300-2gb-ddr2-memory/1 but alias it shows as half in bios.....Looking through the heat sinks I can see 8 mem modules per stick...:eek:

Hi,

When you plug in 1 stick, does it only report it at 512mb in the BIOS then? Can you also check it in Windows and with CPU-Z under memory tab to see if it that reports 512mb with one stick and 1024mb with 2 sticks?

Because you see 8 chips on each module, it does sound like you might have the right configuration modules (64x8) and misprogrammed SPDs.

For some boards running over 2GB, you might have to enable a feature called Memory Remap which allows you to see over 2GB. However, because you only have 2GB's total I don't think this is the case.
