View Full Version : Convoy XL as Windows XP boot device

Hi There,

I have read quite a few posts where it is said that the Convoy XL (PCXL25SR) cannot be used as a boot device. I have been testing on 2 different platforms but mainly on this mobo http://www.commell.com.tw/Support/SBC/P4BWA(S).htm

The problem we are having is strange because we have NO problems! :o

The device is set up in RAID1 mode and we have tried everything we can think of to break it. I thought to myself that it should be easy to fail because it is not supposed to work as a boot device. I have removed either drive and rebuilt them, removed the power while doing a rebuild, replaced either disc with a replacement (hot swap) and pull the power out and it just will not fail. I would say that I have now rebooted about 80 times and still going strong... For obvious reasons, the only thing I haven't tried is pulling both drives out together.

Even more impressive is that the drive which is removed can be booted from on a test system to check that it was indeed a complete working copy.

Can somebody please tell me if I am missing something?

it can be used as boot, but typical consumer desktop boards isn't exactly as easy as pop in the CD and start a fresh install of the OS.

glad to hear you got it to work :).
