View Full Version : HDMI Audio: Going, Going, Gone!
Hey everybody.
I have been using my PBO for a few months now and overall am happy. Ocassionally (10% of the time) when i fire it up I have what has been diagnosed by this forum as HDMI handshake issues between the PBO and my 42" LG LCD. This has historically been resolved by a quick restart using the toggle switch on the back.
Today however no luck, played with it for over an hour trying differnet start sequences, unplugging hdmi cable from TV end and PBO end and have had no luck. Nothing in my setup has changed since yesterday and my PBO with this exact configuration has logged at least 100 hours.
I am running bootcode 18 with P05.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks

I would try a different HDMI cable.
And a different HDMI port on the TV as well.

Houston, we may have a problem, I recently sent both of my units back
to have the firmware updated and new bootcode done, they came back
with just firmware updated, read;
P020P04
Bootup 16
Bootcode 0000.0202.0016
Kernal 289552
So both units are on their way back to Patriot to get fully updated.
Your thread worries me, as while the above firmware update seemed to work
after only a day or so, the HDMI output went blip, adios, good bye...
It would flash the home screen and then go black.
I'd plug in the Composite cables and things did work, but only with that hookup.
Sounds like something is amiss with the HDMI portion of the new program
if it's just dropping out like that???

Just curious - what firmware version and bootcode # did you tell them to install - If they flashed P04 then they are 2 versions behind the most current one they released, unless you told them to use P04
P05-B is the most current firmware version and the general consensus is that it is a pretty good and stable version (For a PM released version) - it even has optical disc support - although a lot of forum members are using "that other" firmware and really like it
Bootcode 18 and 20 are the most recent bt versions - but as usual bt 20 is a 'mystery' release, no one seems to know what function/features it has added
btw - If you get your PBOs back and they still don't have the bt and frmw versions you want - flashing the firmware is a very simple process - and updating the bootcode is a little more involved, but still easily done for just a few $$ needed to purchase the correct wiring/cables for the process
Check the sticky in the Media Player Help sub-forum for the firmware flash instructions - and check the 'unbrick' link in aasorors' sig. for bt updating
Good luck - I hope your PBOs come back this time with P05-B flashed and at least bt 18 or 20 installed - (these would be my choices if my PBO were sent it to be updated)
And if your HDMI issue is still present after the updates - the 1st thing to check is what aasoror has suggested in the previous reply to Twis

They were sent in to be brought up to the latest but that info seemed to
have not made it to them, so it wasn't done.
I did try the things that the Master "aasoror" suggested,
he's a very good source of info and we've come to rely on him for a lot of things,
it is great to have someone willing to help as quickly as he does!
But, neither different cables, nor other HDMI input's brought joy.
I tried the cables and inputs using other devices and those inputs worked fine
just the PBO decided not to play any longer, very strange both ended at the same time.
Which made me guess it was the recent update and that's when I checked
to see what version they were and was surprised to see what they were at.
NOW mind you, I picked these up earlier this year and been carrying one around
the world with me, Spain, Korea, all through the USA and worked great
it was just that I felt that they should be brought up to the latest rev
being from a industry that presses our customers to also be up to date.
Hopefully this HDMI thing will be looked at before they are shipped back.

Yah - it seems when dealing with some companies that you have to print your instructions in 'Large' letters with a vividly colored crayon and tape the instructions to the devices - and then cross your fingers until the units get back
Good Luck - hope your HDMI/updating issues are just a memory soon

Thanks I hope so too, I am getting ready to travel yet again on
Monday morning, but it looks like I'll not have one of those to take
along with me. That'll certainly make for a long two weeks :(
But the problem is not clear cut I think, as it 'seemed' to work
and then dropped out, so if they check it, it may pass inspection
but only to drop out when I get them back, you may guess I'm
starting to regret updating eh? :)

My name's getting to be mud at work, I've promoted the PBO to all my friends
and I received a call from one that just got their PBO and it also doesn't have
an HDMI output viewable on his TV, Composite works but nothing shows on his
HDMI input....
I'm still away from home, heading back tomorrow, so I don't know if the two
units I sent in for firmware update work with the HDMI or not, if they don't...
can the units be brought back a software version, even with the firmware bootcode
is higher??????
As I never had any trouble with the HDMI before and I don't know what to
tell my friends, except to email to PBO their problem.
I don't have details of which TV they have nor software version at this point,
as I'm not there to help them check that out, but it isn't a good sign...
Help Patriot! what was the deal on the HDMI Driver Revision?????
