Hey all, just bought the PBO from fry's for $50 a couple days ago and so far pretty impressed with what it can do. Told my mom about it, she got it, and also loves it. But as much as I love it, I would love to make it better. I'm a very loving guy.

One thing I am curious about is whether it is possible to use different fonts or add text types colors to the subtitles it shows? 99.9% of what I watch is anime (actually so far 100% of what I have tested on it is anime) so subtitles are important for me. While having it set to -24 for size and the color white (PBO is racist /jk) seems the best for subtitles, it still doesn't come close to looking as good as how it shows on media player classic.

It also always runs the subs at the bottom of the screen when on the computer occasionally they will be placed at the top for different situations, but I'm assuming that would be impossible to get the PBO to understand.

Next quick question: is wifi faster than LAN?
I've already read on here that the nic is a bottleneck for the device and my own testing gets around 35mbps transferring data to the hard drive on the PBO. Using a usb connection I get 85mbps...

Wondering what kind of transfer speeds people are getting when using a wifi adpater. Kinda odd to go wifi for faster speed than lan... but if anyone knows their wifi speeds let me know if it's worth it to buy a wifi adapter for the PBO. (also a good/cheap/compatable wifi N)

What exactly is AC Ryan?
Looking it up I guess it is a very similar device as the PBO but with different firmware and your using it's firmware on the PBO. Would the aforementioned subtitles be better if I use AC Ryan's firmware? I do like the sound of having a time line selection bar to move your playing point...

Nope

There is a sub position option (isn't that working for you?)

WIFI isn't faster, just more convenient, 4~6 MB/s is the average on WIFI, check the USB wifi sticky for more elaborate discussions and test results.

Read here (http://www.patriotmem.com/forums/showpost.php?p=21627&postcount=658) to know exactly the story of AC Ryan port and where to ask AC Ryan related Qs.

Welcome to the PBO community

not quite, what I mean is subtitles can be assigned by the maker anywhere on the screen, not just one location. IE translators notes typically are at the top while sub is on bottom. Or two people talking over each other so each has a line of subs at the same time but different locations on the screen. I can move sub locations manually with the PBO, but all subs would be in that spot... not quite the desired effect. But if adding text colors is impossible, then this would truly be impossible as it would require a reprogramming of the sub handling function. :(

Thanks for the info on the wifi... guess I'll leave it on LAN for streaming but use USB for data transfers.

And thanks for the welcome :)

I don't even think that any text-like subs has this information encoded (like .str)
But if you have the idx/sub (or if its embedded in MKV) it will be displayed correctly on the PBO if the information is encoded in the subtitle stream.
