I am sorry but I have tried searching other threads but I was unable to find a straight answer for my question. I was thinking about installing P05 firmware:
Firmware:
Please choose the firmware based on your devices current bootcode. NOTE: Do not use PO5 firmware with a device with bootcode 16. This will corrupt the device.
Bootcode: 18 or 20 Download - P05 Firmware
Bootcode: 16, Download -P04 Firmware
The instructions say to NOT install P05 with a device with bootcode 16. I am currently running P04. Does this mean I am running bootcode 16 and if I upgrade I will corrupt my device? How do you know what current bootcode you are running on? If I am running on bootcode 16 then how would I install P05 without bricking my device?
Thanks!

To find out what bootcode you have enter "stop" then "pause" in the PBO default screen. Being at P04 does not mean that you have bootcode 18.

Where is bootcode 20?
I am on P02. Should I update to P05?

Where did you find these instructions with mention of bootcode 20?

Whether you should update or not is debatable. If your system is working well for your needs, then you could just sit tight. There is nothing earth shattering about the updates. I found p04 more responsive on the pbo player menu (it took less time to think about every movie you thumb through), but some modding ability gets lost if you don't go through some extra hoops.
Bootcode 20 has been alluded to on the Patriot's PBO product page (http://www.patriotmem.com/products/detailp.jsp?prodline=6&catid=69&prodgroupid=159&id=895&type=20) and nowhere else. Perhaps later model pbo's are shipping with bootcode 20. Perhaps it is a typo.

+1 for the faq.
There has been a thread announcing this since forever (http://www.patriotmem.com/forums/showthread.php?p=21126) (not with proper keyword combination though)

Is there any advantage to change bootcode from 16 to 18?

Well, a better compatibility with HDDs > 500GB is attributed to BC 18.
