I bought this player which i still haven't gotten yet for the fact that i like how it supports flv files and the fact that wdtv has an issue playing sdtv content on a crt tv.What i mean is when you play a file it comes in fullscreen but part of the video is missing so you have to zoom out for every video. When you zoom out to 0.9 wide screen videos than show the whole picture ok but when you zoom out to 0.9 for a 4:3 video there's still bits of the video missing on the top and bottom of the video and if u zoom out to 0.8 there's black bars on each side of the screen.Does this player auto adjust each video to play fullscreen on a 4:3 tv without it over scanning the picture??What zoom options does it have?Am i going to have to zoom out for every video and still have the same issue as wdtv?

the PBO doesn't do any cropping (http://www.patriotmem.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2441) (confirmed with SD and HD). So to fix your CRT cropping .9 zoom should do, if not then your TV would be further cropping the picture so there is not much you can do but further zoom out the picture.

ughhh its weird how people are worried about useless issues that can be done way better on a computer and not complaining about over cropping issues which affects every video.Hopefully the 0.9 zoom only have tiny bits of black boarders on all sides.Sounds like you would need 0.95 zoom just like i think the wdtv needs a 0.85 zoom or 0.86 or 7.Oh well now that i have both products there's twice the chance of one of them fixing this issue:(I don't have an hdtv yet just a crt tv.I'm assuming they have not added a 0.95 zoom in any firmware so far?

Any one with an HDTV (be it an LCD or a CRT) will consider your post as useless as you consider their posts questioning the things they are far more concerned about.

So its just subjective ;)

Hopefully when you get your player and start asking here about stuff that only concerns you, people will answer you and not try not to pre-judge and put themselves in your shoes :)

Just a kind reminder that at the end of the day any one answering a question here already knows the answer for it, so its more or less a useless issue for him.

Peace.

do you know of a player that does do auto cropping and auto fullscreen 4:3 video without losing any picture?

This is a strange and angry thread.

I haven't noticed cropping over the composite on the pbo under firmware 02, 04, or 05.

I am, in fact, using an hdtv, though I have used the pbo with sd tv's. I have not noticed any cropping.

still haven't gotten the box yet but there is no 0.95 zoom is there just 0.9 in the latest firmware?

I can't tell what ratio/decimal display it offers, but there is now a "Zoom Out" function under the video tab that on my pbo hdtv setup puts an inset box around the display- same as the old .9 zoom under firmware p02, as far as I recall.

Seems about right that Patriot might tackle a '0.95 zoom' for 4:3 sets in future firmware updates... since it would be useful to 0.1% of PBO owners. Maybe the 'team' is working on some much needed VCR connectivity as well.

Seriously, on Patriot's firmware 'to do list' (try to pretend one exists), this wouldn't register. Believe me, you'll soon see the larger issues (i.e., when half of your FLV files are 'invalid').

P05 has some oddities to it, but it is playing more of the flv files now.

yep, "how do I upgrade my firmware so these @$% flv files will play?" will be his first larger issue.

... followed shortly after by "hey, I upgraded my firmware but now my fill-in-the-blank is no longer working!"

I guess I can't really comment on personally on P05. Just a hunch. :D
