View Full Version : Streaming BluRay ISO starts in arbitrary position

Hello,

I have looked but been unable to find an answer for my problem. I finally connected my PBO with my computer via a cat5 cable. I have the network configured and was testing it out. Streaming Dvds from the computer works just fine, but when I tried to stream several BluRay ISO's (ripped with AnyDVD), the PBO would start playing them in arbitrary spots in the movie (one was over half way through). I hadn't tried playing an ISO from the PBO's hard drive yet.

Oddly, the starting spot for a single movie is the same and is repeatable, but different movies start in different spots (other than the beginning). Also, I can't seem to coax the movie back to the beginning because the BD Disk menu doesn't show and I can't seem to navigate chapters.

I would appreciate any help you could provide.

A quick update...

I managed to copy the BluRay ISO to the hard drive on the PBO (using the network cable). Unfortunately the problem still remains (and it started at the same exact place as it did when I streamed it). The next thing I am going to try is copying the ISO to an external drive and hooking it up to the PBO. I will try playing from the external drive and copying the ISO to the PBO from the drive. Maybe something will work.

Update #2...

Well, I tried playing the ISO from a USB external hard drive and have the same problem as well as copying the ISO from the external drive to the HDD in the PBO (I just love acronyms :-p) again with no joy.

Looking at the ISOs, the file size is correct, but when I browse the file via the PBO, the time shown for the movie is all over the map (from 38 minutes to 1 hr 34 min). And the movie only plays for the amount of time listed on the PBO. For example, Monsters Inc. ISO only shows being 38 minutes long: when you play it, it starts around the middle of the movie and quits before the end. Definitely a bug.

Cheers!

I've experienced the same problem. However, I have found if I stream the Blu-Ray movie from my computer over the network, the movie starts at the beginning like it is supposed to. However, if the ISO file is on the PBO internal hard drive or attached USB drive, the movie starts in the middle. I've copied the ISO file back and forth from my computer to the PBO and it's the same file. It always starts in the same place in the middle when the file is on the PBO's internal drive or USB drive. I hope the next firmware update can fix this.

That is funny because mine is doing the exact opposite. It's the streaming ISO that is starting in the middle. I am trying to copy the ISO to the PBO and test it there. I also edited the above post to clarify what I did. Still, it's strange, but hopefully fixable (see original post for updates).

Waiting for a firmware fix, I guess...

The PBO appears to search the STREAM directory of the Bluray iso for the largest file. Most of the time this would be OK because the largest file is the movie. On some Blurays the movie is made up of several files. UP and Bolt are two I can remember. When I play the UP iso on the PBO it starts playing a 12.7 GiB file (the largest) which is well into the movie. I don't know if this what you are seeing, but it is a bug.

That makes sense based on what I am seeing. The videos always start and stop in the same exact place and although the iso is full size, the video is only a portion. That may also explain why my 3:10 to Yuma iso starts right at the beginning.

If Patriot can fix that bug, the PBO will be immensely useful to me (I keep my backups in another part of the house).

Thanks for the insight!:)
