I just bought the media player yesterday and I had problem to set up the player to play videos via network.

my setup:

Acer Aspire Windows Home Server,
Office box media player.
Wireless adaptor.

I have no problem to set up the wireless network, it has been able to play some AVI files via network by browsing the files under "WORKGROUP" of network. but I don't know why there are many video files have been missing in my folders, most of them are RMVB, MKV etc. I copied those RMVB to USB drive and they have no problem to play it with the media box.

I browser files via network, by going into the folder of shared folders under WORKGROUP, suppose I shall see my RMVB, MKV files, but the fact is I even couldn't see them, anyone know what happened to those files? they are physically inside the folder.... :(

Thanks for any help or comments in advance

If the folders are empty (the PBO doesn't display any file from the folder) then try resetting your router. Also, make sure that the access privileged are correct for those folders (i.e. sharing is for "everyone" and "password sharing" is disabled in case you are using Win7)

Thank you for the reply.

Aspire home server is using Window Home Server which is similar to Windows Server 2003.

Before I went into the video folder, media player has asked me to input username and password, so I actually logged onto the Aspire server. the user account I used has all the premissions. We have been using the same account to watch videos on our Notebook for long time. I can see all the folders and sub-folder, but just cannot files when down to the video file level.

I just updated the Firmware to latest one, but even worse now, I couldn't see the folders under WORKGROUP now. it doesn't asked me to input username / password to go into the WORKGROUP...

any idea?

thanks

Did you try restarting your router, similar behavior was reported to be fixed by restarting the router (especially after firmware update).
You might also want to switch between DHCP and manual IP settings (on the PBO) to see if it makes any difference.

yes, I restarted my router after upgrade firmware, the problem is now I see even no folders under WORKGROUP/ASPIREHOME, seems it sees my Aspire home server, and also shows a "logon successful" message when I choose to enter "ASPIREHOME" folder, but then nothing inside "ASPIREHOME", before the firmware upgrade, I couldn't see folders inside and could see some AVI files also, but now it is pure empty...

I also noticed that when I connect via "UPnP", it has a "windows media connect" service there, when I enter this "windows media connect", I can see some of my AVI, MP4 files, but none of them are RMVB... what happen to those RMVB files over network?
