I was playing a file and I get the message unsupported gmc. This means that I cannot play the file even with a firmware update. I was reading that the problem is from hardware something to do with the warp.

I have the same issue with 1 of my divx files, so it doesnt really bother me. Although the video does play, with full sound, the video is unwatchable. I've posted this issue in the firware wishlist stickied post above. Since its only occurring on one file, I'm more concerned about certain MKV files that cause they same type of issue (possibly due high bitrate issues?) because I have more of those files.

Dont worry, you're not alone. What kind of file types are causing this issue?

I only have one file with this problem (a movie XVID). I´m new with the PBO (2 weeks). I always use avi file because I had an old TV now I have an LCD and I´m trying to download MKV.

I've just noticed that I have a whole bunch of files which the message "unsupported GMC" pops up at random.

The video goes smeary but the audio sounds fine.

got a bunch of avi's that report the same unsupported gmc error. however, all my other avi's work great.

EDIT: i converted the files to another format and they play fine now (avi to divx). not a solution imo but at least they play now.

Can you share what software you used to convert?
(From my reading it seems it is a problem with Realtek and xvid files with warp, and that converting to DIVX should work.)
More importantly, what settings did you choose?

Try Pocket DivX converter (http://www.pocketdivxencoder.net/EN_index.htm) (there is a direct stream copy option as well).

Having just bumped heads with this curse, I found this explanation on a pair of (sort-of)-related sites:
"And obviously you'll see this field in your MediaInfo 'TEXT' output:
Format settings, GMC : 3 warppoints"
http://www.mede8erforum.com/index.php?topic=35.0
"Format settings, GMC : 3 warppoints

You can see that the file has GMC 3 warp points. PC's can play these files but hardware players cannot, the maximum number of warp points that the NMT players can cope with is one.

To remove the GMC warp points we have to recode. Recoding WILL reduce quality, the extent is debatable."
http://www.networkedmediatank.com/showthread.php?tid=9395

And my kludgy file had mediainfo showing GMC: 3 warpoints.
