I tried an Blu-ray ISO with True-HD and the video played with no problem, but I got no sound. I think the message was "audio format unknown". :(

CJ, will this be fixed? Will it have True-HD or Master Audio?

the chip does support trueHD. let me check if this is bootcode related issues. There are a few minor functions may require bootcode update. I will update a bootcode update procedure later for people who is interested of doing it themselves.

if not, you can always send it back to us to update.

Can we get the boot code update procedure?

Yes, still waiting for that procedure. Been a while already. I hope your not writing a book ;)

Yes, I like the 2009 version of Star Trek but would like to be able to listen to it in English! Audio track one (tru-hd) is "unknown audio format" and tracks 2 and 3 are foreign language, #4 is directors commentary. I need my TRU-HD!
C'mon bootcode...:D

Rip the Bluray with Dolby 5.1 instead of TrueHD. Most stereos don't even support TrueHD until a year ago.

Ummmmm, no. I have a lot of very nice equipment and have been listening to Dolby Tru-Hd and DTS-HD the day it came out. There is no going back for me.
Will wait for another fimrware and continue to use my Dune for now..

Patriot_CJ If I do send this back to you for this update will you send it back to me with a silent fan? Of course I would need to know how long this would be expected to take. It was 6 months ago you mentioned posting do it yourself instructions which have not appeared.
Right now I am not optimistic that I would ever see my PBO again!!

sure.. just send a request to RMA and put in BOOTCODE update request. Should take no more than 1 or 2 days after we receive.

but before you do .. check the version #, most of inventory in the channel should be already with the newer firmware.

After a quick response from RMA@patriotmem.com I am a bit more optimistic. If I get a new fan quickly I might give that a try.

On the other hand if the next firmware update is supposed to fix this I guess I can just be patient (I've grown attached to my little PBO box and may not want to part with it and risk loss/damage in shipping).

Can you confirm that a firmware upgrade can fix this or is the bootcode update necessary?

Same problem here - get "unknown audio format" with Blu-ray ISO ripped via AnyDVD.

MeanMangoMan - how do you rip with Dolby 5.1 instead of TrueHD. What program do you use?

What is the status on updating my own bootcode? Thanks

Have same problem as all above-can sending back the unit for a bootcode update resolve the 'unknown audio format' issue relating to True-HD?

would love to do it from home, it can't be too difficult.

Patriot didn't claim a boot code would fix HD audio playback, infact no one knows for sure what does the updated boot code do.

Only hope it keep your figures crossed till March (when the new firmware is supposed to be released), but I wouldn't get my hopes up for anything playback related (as it will be probably a chipset issue)

I just updated the firmware yesterday, and am still seeing the unknown audio format error (other audio works fine, and commentary also works fine). I would love to hear from anyone who has either received info on updating the bootcode, or alternately, someone who has sent their unit in on RMA and had whatever fixed was applied lead to them being able to hear trueHD (assuming that is the issue).
Thanks in advance.

Its a chipset deficiency (http://www.patriotmem.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2987), not likely to get fixed without changing the chip. Realtek has already moved to an updated chip so I dont see them investing time to address this.
