How do I add a folder to My Shortcuts?

when you apply to login password the log in screen will prompt creat shortcut to login required folders.
for files on the other hand, you can select them into play list instead.

There has to be another way to add shortcuts. It makes no sense to have to go down several layers from just to get to the folder you need.

can you please go into detail on how you can create shortcuts?
For example if i want to make a folder under C:\profile\username\storage\media\movies\ in a networked computer as shortcut, how would i be able to do that?
I've done a shortcut for C:\ but i don't see any options of going into a subfolder under many folders and create a shortcut out of that
I agree with twbrooklyn that it would be very annoying everytime i need to browse through many folders just to watch a movie if there is no option to create a shortcut such as above

Patriot???
The shortcut process is a mystery and a major problem for many of us. A clear-cut, step-by-step guide would be most helpful.
Many thanks....and Happy Turkey!

I guess this would be in a firmware change but if we will ever see it?
The gui needs to be changed so when you select video,pic,mp3 etc you will see the folder that contains them up front ust like you can create a shortcut on your desktop for a drive or network drive

Has anyone tried playing around with it? Like create a network shortcut, copy it to the PBO or USB stick hooked up to the PBO, and click it? Worth a shot, while you're waiting.
Or
Create the shortcut on the computer, right on the root of the shared drive, and click that?
I have no idea, I'm just throwing it out there. I'd try it, if I had that problem. Won't hurt anything.

Again this necessitates the creation of a sticky with 'Feature Requests'.
Patriot_CJ i think you should run this by the engineering/development department and perhaps with the help of end users Patriot can create a device that stands out from the rest.

Sorry guys for the delay.. been difficult managing multiple forums at the same time.
to answer the question, current shortcut to folder can only "triggers" via login required paths. Or you can save certain files into playlist for easy access.
I am working on with our RD to add in shortcut to folders manually. This will take a little time though, so please be patient.

any status update on this? this is one of the most frastrating part (that i have to go 4-5 steps everytime i have to navigate to my movies folder in a network. Is there no way we can just navigate via shortcut? That seems to be very basic and easy thing to implement.
p.s. we asked this half a yr ago

This can be done using share shortcuts, check my signature for the link.
It will require very basic linux knowledge and some courage (all details in the link).
You will end up with your shared folders directly appearing under Browse -> HDD

Well here's the ugliness of this......it's a simple linux mount symlink issue that easily can be added to the dvdplayer gui....if people that just know a little about linux can come up with such things why can't these overpaid developers put that same functionality that is already provided here what to do in a gui format? Ben or CJ take the simple hack instructions to the developers and demand they learn a little functionality with the programming.

I had hoped to find a way to add a few network shared folders to the shortcuts. While browsing to a new Win7 machine, I was presented with the ability to make a shortcut, right after entering the login info. But, the machine where I store most movies etc. already has the PW and login info entered into the PBO, and I can't find any other way to add these folders, or just the machine, as a shortcut in My Shortcuts.
I read the part about the playlist, but don't want to add individual files, just a folder or even a machine with the shared folders, so I don't have to go through the 'Browse...Net...workgroup...machine...etc. each time'.
Apparently, from reading this thread, there isn't a way that's within reason (I don't consider setting up Telnet and typing in complicated unix commands as 'reasonable' for such a basic simple function).
If there's not going to be a firmware fix for easily adding shortcuts, is there a way to make it forget a login, so I can redo it and nab the opportunity to make a shortcut to the machine that has the movie and other media folders? When I did the initial login on that machine, I either missed that option, or else didn't bother, figuring that 'of course' I can always add a shortcut later.' Of course.
I really like this PBO, and it seems ridiculous that there's a 'shortcuts' when I browse the network, but no simple way to add anything to it unless you catch it the first time you login to that machine.

But you can edit/delete/add a new shortcut without the need to browse the network and hit a login screen of your network machine.
Just go to Browse -> Network -> Shortcuts and press the "options" button on your remote when the Shortcuts screen is opened.

This is a fine example of useful tips that could easily have been included in the user manual and weren't, although to give Patriot credit they did include the options button on the remote ;)

Thanks, aasoror, I had tried just about everything else but always got the little hand that says you can't do something. Once I entered into the shortcuts menu and pressed the option button, I got the choices.
It still took a little to get it to work...I couldn't find a way to put in the machine name, but after clicking the 'detail' button I saw it, and did get logged in. Much easier than going through the whole network browse.
I wonder if it's possible to go a bit further...say to the drive or even folder with the movie files? Say, in the Host Name box, use COMPNAME:/Drive_F or something like that? Forward slash/back slash/no slash/no colon? I'll have to give it a try, but it would be nice to have a direct shortcut to that drive.
I had read through this whole thread and was really discouraged after reading the "share shortcuts" link and visualizing telnetting and typing in a bunch of Unix commands, which I'd no doubt get syntaxed wrong, just to add the shortcut. I think that's what several of the posts were asking, just a simple way to add shortcuts, so thanks for a good and useful answer.

Well depending on how bad you need the folder shortcuts, as always, "no pain no gain". Its just "3 lines of code" and you can't possibly break the box doing so, the majority of the time is spent getting the correct parameters that would work on your server.
Unfortunately, there seems to be no current workaround it, share shortcuts feature is not available on any of the boxes with Realtek chips, so PM has no say in this issue (like many others).

I would like to set up a shortcut to a specific network and sub-directory.
I go to shortcuts, and then press the "options" button on the remote.
I get asked a lot of questions...and there is a "details" choice at the bottom with many more questions. I'm not exactly sure what they want to know. (and some of the font is too small for me to read)
Can anyone offer detailed assistance or point me to where I can find it?
Thanks in advance.

You absolutely need server/host "IP address".
You need the user/pass only if your server is expecting a user/pass.
the rest of inputs can be safely ignored.
For more info please check the "machine shortcut" in my signature below.

Thanks, with your help I figured it out. And I now have a shortcut to a network drive. I don't suppose there is a way (without linux programming) to have that shortcut point to a specific directory on that drive. Right now it just points to the hard drive, not the directory all my files are in.
Thanks again for your time.

That said, machine shortcuts doesn't point to the hard drive, but rather whatever you have shared on the machine. i.e. if you want to see "My movies" whenever you open the shortcut, simply disable sharing on your HDD and go to the specific folders you want to share and individually enable sharing for them. So you will able to see them directly once you open the shortcut.
