A few months ago, I bought a Patriot XT 16GB flash so I could back up all my files. I had no problem doing this, and a few weeks later I added a few more files. Total space used was about 7GB.

Yesterday I plugged the flash drive into my computer and got a pop-up saying "USB device not recognized". I tried plugging it into every USB port on my PC, but I got the same results.

I shut down my PC, unlplugged it for a few minutes, and then rebooted. Nothing changed. I also tried another flash (Kingston) and got the same results.

I'll try it on another computer, but even if it works, that does me no good as I can't store any additional files from my PC right now.

Is there anything else I can troubleshoot? Thanks!

Hi,

So to confirm, another drive you have is doing the same thing? Try uninstalling all of your usb drivers through control panel and reinstalling them. You should be able to find the cd/dvd with your motherboard or download them at the motherboard manufacturers' website.

Today I plugged the flash into 2 other computers, and it worked just fine. I was able to open all the files on it. So I know the flash is okay. The problem is with my USB ports or the drives. I've uninstalled and reinstalled all the USB drivers, but my PC still won't recognize the Patriot. Those same ports seem to accept other inputs such as my printer, mouse, etc. without any problems.

I bought this flash brand new in the package from a computer store earlier this year. It has about 7GB of files on it, but now I know it's not the flash anyway.

Hi,

At this point you might want to contact the motherboard manufactuer. It sounds like maybe an internal glitch and perhaps the motherboard is allocating some memory from your usb devices somewhere else?
