I recently bought a motherboard from ECS for the AMD socket AM2 processor, model RS485M-M. And I just bught the Patriot 2x1GB Dual Channel PC2-5300 kit (DDR-2).
I had started out with 512 MB of slower Kingston RAM, no problems at all. I swapped in a 2 x 512MB pair of PC2-5300 from PNY (from another PC I use), that was fine too. But the Patriot memory kit is not working right at the SPD default settings. So, I put the Kingston set back, went into BIOS, set the RAM mode to DDR2-400, put the Patriots in, they are good at that speed. Then I changed the setting to DDR2-533, still good at that speed. As far as I can tell, there is no way to adjust the VDimm with the BIOS menu, this is a 1.0 release of a Phoenix 6.00PG BIOS. The onboard voltage measurement says that VDimm is 1.77 volts. If I could I would step the voltage up to 1.9 to see if the RAM would work at the defaults, I suspect it would. I might also be able to have good luck going back to DDR2-667 and slower timings. So, any advice on how to proceed and what to try first?

One more comment, a disadvantage of having a new model mobo and fairly new chipset (ATI SB-450 southbridge), I can't find any utilities that will work with it to display temp's, fan speeds, voltages etc. from Windows. SpeedFan seems to be the top utility around today, but it does not have support for my chipset yet.

I am a bit disappointed that the RAM would not work as &quote;plug and play&quote;, but I plan to keep it and tinker with settings to get the best performance I can from it. Love the blue anodized heat spreaders on these, matches the front trim of my case! <img src=&quote;/images/forum/regular_smile.gif&quote; align=absmiddle border=0>

Thanks in advance to anyone that can assist.

After a long wait, ECS issued a new BIOS revision to fix problems with RAM, and now my RAM runs at the default settings. As it is not a &quote;enthusiast&apos;s&quote; motherboard they may not ever make RAM voltage accessible, but that&apos;s OK now that it works well at default settings.
