If I purchase a new Torqx 128 at retail in a sealed box, is there anyway I can tell what the firmware level is on the unit before I buy it?

No, When you get it, just run HD tune free version and see if it says v1571. If not just update it. It only takes one minute. It's not too scary.

I was just looking at my benchmarks. When my drive was new and had the old firmware, it performed almost as good or better (depending how you look at it)

So don't be scared. Just update it.

I have installled Windows 7 and a clean Win XP Pro.

I am currently working with Patriot tech support on this.

I have never got a HDTune or ATTO bench > 130MB/sec read.

I am expecting numbers approaching 190 MB/sec.

I'm not quite sure how that pertains to THIS thread, however if you would like help on this issue from this forum please start your own thread and include your hardware information and any software modifications you did to the OSs to accommodate them for the SSD (if any).
