I'm having problems with my Xporter XT 4GB. I've been using it for ReadyBoost (which worked great), but it suddenly stopped working.

When I plug it in the computer, I see a gray "Removable Drive (F:)". Double-clicking it opens the directory, but if I try to create a new file in it I get a "Could not find this item" error message.

When I try formatting it, it says "There is no disk in drive F."

I tried using Vista's diskpart to recreate partitions, but that didn't work either. I think I might need the low-level format tool. If so, my email address is rmmmmmmmmmmmmmm@yahoo.com.

Thanks in advance!

Sorry for the bump, but I am having a very similar problem;
Two nights ago I put some backups of my website on my 8 GB Xporter flash drive, and the next day I plug in the same drive in the same USB port and it instead of being called "Patriot" it's called "Removable Drive" and not formatted. I haven't formatted it yet, but the format screen did say it would format it to 7.9 gb. Is there a way I can get my data back without formatting it?

Thanks
Shawn

Unfortunately a format will more than likely wipe out any data. There might be some third party software out there if you search keywords, "Data Recovery Software" that might do it on a deep extraction level.

Are you sure you can't get the drive to read at all? Sometimes wiggling it might help. See if you can another system.

Good Luck.

Wiggling doesn't do anything, and I tried every usb port on my hub, on my laptop and the computer in our family room. It just won't read anymore. :(
