Having trouble getting the viper 3x2gb kit PVT36G1600ELK ram to work on my new ASUS P6T Deluxe mb.

Whenever I try to boot (cd or hdd, vista or vista install cd) I get part way through booting, then an error:
Windows failed to start ... a recent hw or sw chg might be the cause. To fix the problem .... insert setup disk and repair ... File \windows\system32\boot\winload.exe; status 0x0000001; the selected entry could not be loaded because the application is missing or currupt. The page gives me the option to hit enter to continue on to a Windows Boot Manager page (Windows Setup [EMS Enabled]. From there I can choose a tool > windows memory diagnostic. Running the memory test at standard level works fine, but if I try to test at extended level, it locks up.

I'm pretty sure it's a memory issue, based on other web posts. I've tried 1 stick, 2 sticks, 3 sticks, with no joy. It is a new system ... I've tried disconnecting everything except the dvd drive for booting, doesn't help. I've tried various video cards. I have a 1000 Watt PS, 8 pin EATX power connected; Latest mb bios

What are the correct settings to use in the BIOS to fix this error? There are a couple different memory voltage settings - which should I try to set to 1.65 volts? (QPI/DRAM core voltage, or DRAM bus voltage?). Also, actually this board will only set the voltage .2v increments, so it will have to be 1.66 or 1.64 - which should I use? I've tried manually setting the frequency at 1600 and 1333. I've tried booting up both Windows Vista 32, and Windows Vista 64 bit install dvds (Linux fails boot as well).

Also, when setting CAS timings, there are many more settings than numbers given (9-9-9-24) .... and there are 3 sections to the page (1st information, 2nd information, 3rd information sections, whith multiple timings under each) - do I need to try setting those additional settings?

Thanks for any advice!

Have now confirmed:

I got the OS to boot by manually setting the DRAM freq. to 1600, and removing one of the 3 DIMMS. It will boot with either 1 or 2 DIMMS, but not 3. This would perhaps indicate a problem with insufficient DRAM voltage ...

Which setting on the motherboard should I set to 1.65 volts to meet the requirement of this RAM? -
Is it the QPI/DRAM core voltage setting?
Or is it the DRAM bus voltage?
Also, if it's the DRAM bus voltage, what setting should I use, 1.64, or 1.66, since the motherboard bios will only accept .2 increments?

Please advise, thanks!

I believe it's the QPI/Core voltage that should be set to 1.65v. Also, confirm the command rate is manually set. I can't remember if your board supports XMP profiles.

8 CAS Latency CL Delay between activation of row and reading of row

8 RAS to CAS (or Row to Column Delay) tRCD Activates row

8 Row Precharge Delay (or RAS Precharge Delay) tRP/tRCP Deactivates row

20 Row Active Delay (or RAS Active Delay or time to ready) tRA/tRD/tRAS
Number of clock cycles between activation and deactivation of row

1 Command Rate CMD Rate Delay between chip select and command

Hopefully, manual settings will work well. I found that using the XMP profile works better for whatever reason.

For the fact that it will not post with all 6GB's seems like you might have one faulty stick. I know you've tried 1, 2, and 3 sticks but can you try testing all 3 sticks individually? 1.66v is fine. Set QPI voltage to about 1.25-1.35v. Set Trfc to atleast 88.

For all dimms at 6GB, you want to make sure you're using the 2nd, 4th and 6th slots. What BIOS version are you running? I would suggest using 1 stick on default settings and flashing to the latest version.
